In the presence of the venerable one, leave three or four finger-widths, fold the paper scroll in half three times. For something less than that, in (your) hand, leave more than two finger-widths, close by, fold the paper scroll twice, with the tip bent. For someone like yourself who is inferior, in any case, from that and so on, a two-fold paper scroll and a horizontal scroll are both acceptable. Fourth, regarding matters of common topics, as it is said in the treatise of Daṇḍin, "Here, profound like the ocean, steadfast like the king of mountains, to give the desires to all beings, (like) the wish-fulfilling tree and nectar." For profound wisdom (metaphorically) the ocean, for steadfastness (metaphorically) the king of mountains, for fulfilling desires (metaphorically) the wish-fulfilling jewel, the wish-fulfilling tree, the auspicious vase, for great splendor (metaphorically) the sun, for stability (metaphorically) the earth, for immutability (metaphorically) gold, for white nature (metaphorically) the conch shell and lotus root, for a broad mind (metaphorically) the sky, for intimacy (metaphorically) the utpala touched by the sun, for beauty (metaphorically) the moon and the kunda grove, and so on, countless metaphors can be used. As it is said, "However similar, that which can be clearly understood, that is called a metaphor." Therefore, do not be tainted by the faults of metaphors. To the lamas and virtuous spiritual friends, (say) "The lama is equal to all Buddhas." And in the Nirvana Sutra it says, "Having taken refuge in the Three Jewels, one will attain fearlessness." As it is said, (express) the same principles as the princes' abandonment and realization, and emulate the conduct of previous holy ones, respectfully narrating the essence of refuge. For kings, (express) cherishing one's own people with love, overwhelming others with majesty, punishing the unjust with righteousness, (having) the wisdom of Brahma, the skill of the son of the desireless one, the qualities of the powerful one, perfect good deeds (having) the power of merit. Just law (metaphorically) the face of a mirror, respected by the masses, protecting with love (metaphorically) the power of love, and so on, and other similarities. Furthermore, in the Ornament Sutra it says, "Bodhisattvas constantly, transform into householder Chakravartins, in all lifetimes, they benefit sentient beings." And so on, appropriate praises should be made. For scholars who are proficient in any of the five sciences, praise should also be given according to their area of expertise. For scholars proficient in grammar, the true meaning of the Buddha's words should be determined from the perspective of nature, conditions, and transformations.

Like the wise man, the Brahmin Pāṇini, the King of Gods, the ascetic Purva, the six-faced youth, etc. Regarding epistemology, like the noble son Āryadeva, Dignāga, Dharmakīrti, etc., who ascertain the meaning of the scriptures without reversing them through three pure examinations, and possess the qualities of debate and refutation. Regarding craftsmanship, like Viśvakarma, who has no obstacles in creating knowable things as they are. In particular, for scribes, like the Brahmin Lekchin and Thumi Sambhota. Regarding medicine, like the son of constant knowledge who protects against the fear of untimely death, the youth's nourisher, Phakhol, Zla-ba-mngon-dga'. Yuthokpa, Jangzur scholars of successive generations, etc. Regarding poetry, like Mtsho-byung-ma, Palden Dandin, Gewang father and son, Yangchen Gawa, etc. Regarding lexicography, like the teacher Acharya Amarasimha, Rabjor Zla-ba. Regarding astrology, like Vajra Family Holder, the Greater and Lesser Time Wheels, the Three Oceans. Regarding black calculation, like the four activities of pacifying, increasing, subjugating, and destroying, Kham, Tra, Khyun, Nag, etc., whatever is worthy of praise, one should speak words and meanings that are pleasing and nourishing to the ears. Fifth, regarding the examples that are appropriate for those, one should also address the superior, intermediate, and inferior people who are widely known in the land of Tibet. Among them, it is developed in both verse and prose forms. First, I vow to speak of a certain sequence of verses. Firstly, to the complete protector of the teachings and beings, His Holiness the Sakya Trizin Rinpoche, the essence of the profound and secret of the eighty-four thousand teachings of the Victorious One, is fully absorbed in your wisdom and compassion, nourishing the fortunate ones with the nectar of maturation and liberation, at the lotus feet of the Sakya Trizin Lama. With eagerness for the qualities of distinguishing the Dharma, fascinated by the spectacle of faith and reverence, even the small voices of respectful supplication are the steps of the flowing of compassionate glances. From the depths of the vast ocean of the Bodhisattva's conduct, the power of the ten freedoms is complete, and the three secrets of body, speech, and mind are like daylight. In the sky of aspiration for the merit of the teachings and beings of Jambudvipa, you tirelessly radiate thousands of lights of altruistic intention. Like the stream of the three baskets of the Victorious One's teachings, hearing, thinking...
