Not non-existent, not existent, Not either. Liberated from the four extremes. This is what the Madhyamikas understand. It is said, "Finally, refuting all views." Therefore, when meditating on it, if you think, "Is it enough to sever the proliferation of clinging to reality in order to attain omniscience?" It is not enough. Because, after establishing that all phenomena are without inherent existence, it is also necessary to cut off the aspect of clinging to the notion that "it is without inherent existence." The key point is that after proving that all phenomena are without inherent existence, it is not necessary to refute that all phenomena are without inherent existence. If you refute it, it will be harmed by the reasoning in the Refutation of Disputes: "If you refute the absence of inherent existence, then it will become well-established as inherent existence." Therefore, on the side of the object, it is not necessary to refute it, but on the side of the subject, it is necessary to refute the clinging that clings to the absence of inherent existence. The key is that the nature of the object has not become the object of the mind of clinging to characteristics and dualistic appearance. Because, the mind with characteristics cannot grasp any of the four extremes of existence and non-existence. "Ultimate reality is not the object of the mind, the mind is considered to be conventional." It is said, and that is also the key point. Therefore, when meditating on this key point, the preliminary practices are refuge and supplication, etc., as before. From the key point of dependent origination, generate certainty in the view of realizing that all phenomena are without inherent existence. Find certainty. Then, instead of continuing that certainty, let go of the clinging that thinks "it is without inherent existence." That emptiness of the object cannot be grasped in any of the extremes of existence and non-existence. Because, neither of those dualistic minds is its object, so cut it off sharply. The object is untouched by proliferation, and the mind is not defiled by the impurities of the mind. Let go of all clinging, characteristics, and proliferation, and rest peacefully in a state of non-clinging. The way of guarding with tightening and loosening, etc., is as before. This view is what Shantideva said: "Having become accustomed to saying that nothing exists, that too will later be abandoned." You have reached that view. However, it seems ridiculous to say that it is the view of the Hashang without understanding this key point. Therefore, "If clinging arises, it is not a view." It is also said that in the first stage of the view, it is directed towards clinging to reality, and in the second stage, it is directed towards clinging to characteristics. Do not accumulate the karma of abandoning the Dharma with a one-sided, one-eyed blindness. Second, loving...

The method of practicing according to the instructions is: For this school, the wisdom of the ground-state, the mind's own nature of clear light, is the basis of both samsara and nirvana. Because it is not recognized, and there is a mistaken clinging to the two, the grasper and the grasped, the manifestation of dualistic appearances, along with latent tendencies, is the root of samsara, innate ignorance. Therefore, cutting off this root and dissolving it into the expanse is of utmost importance. Therefore, there are three aspects to meditating on this: the preliminary accumulation of the two accumulations, the main practice of cutting off the illusory appearance of the grasped, and the principal practice of cutting off the illusory appearance of the grasper. First, as it says in the Ornament: "Bodhisattvas accumulate the boundless, other-shore collections of merit and wisdom, because the mind of the courageous is extremely determined in the Dharma, therefore, they realize the cause that expresses the nature of meaning." Therefore, it is absolutely necessary to accumulate the two accumulations that are in harmony with liberation, and to firmly establish the mind's basis of calm abiding, because these have already been explained above and are complete in themselves, so they are not needed here. Second, there are three aspects to cutting off the illusory appearance of the grasped: seeking the samadhi that obtains the warmth sign, seeking the samadhi that increases the peak sign, and seeking the samadhi that realizes the forbearance of non-grasping. First, think like this: The mind's own nature of clear light, free from the two, grasper and grasped, like a clear mandala of the moon, although it dwells unconceptually in one's own heart, the obstacle to seeing it is solely because one grasps as truly existing separate from one's own mind the external Mount Meru, houses, enemies, friends, intermediate beings, and the world of sentient beings and their environment. Therefore, this obstacle must be removed. The way to remove this is: these are merely illusory appearances of the mind, and there is no true existence separate from the mind. The reason for this is: "Although an object is one, minds are different, therefore, know that the meaning is not established." As it says. Although a substance is moist and wet, it does not truly exist, because for different beings, it appears as illusions such as water, nectar, pus and blood, and so forth. Therefore, understand through this key point: if it were truly water, how could it appear as nectar and pus and blood, and so forth? Therefore, decisively cut it off as if it were a dream, an illusion, or a mirage. As before, with tears streaming down, pray to the lama, remembering refuge, generation of bodhicitta, renunciation, loving-kindness, compassion, and the mind of enlightenment.
