One should train in not speaking. Generating regret for things that should not be regretted is, in general, generating regret for entering into virtue, and in particular, generating regret for entering the Great Vehicle. The remedy for this is to place some sentient beings in virtue and to place them in the unexcelled, perfectly complete enlightenment, not in the level of hearers and solitary realizers. One should train in this meaning. As a remedy for speaking hateful verses to a Bodhisattva who has generated the mind of enlightenment, one should train in generating the perception of the teacher towards a Bodhisattva who has generated the mind of enlightenment and in praising the qualities that are truly in the ten directions. As it is said in the Sutra Showing That All Dharmas Are Unborn: "During the day and likewise at night, three times, I bow with my head to the Bodhisattvas. When they constantly engage in actions as they wish, I do not seek even the slightest fault in them." One should act accordingly. As a remedy for practicing deceit and trickery towards all sentient beings, one should abide in pure higher intention towards all sentient beings, and one should train in not being deceitful and tricky. Higher intention is the wish to connect all sentient beings with benefit and happiness. Fourth, one should train in not abandoning sentient beings in one's mind. Completely abandoning sentient beings is abandoning the mind of wanting to attain Buddhahood for the sake of others due to seeing the faults of sentient beings or because the path of the Great Vehicle is difficult to accomplish, etc. If that happens, one either does not want liberation at all or wants the liberation of hearers and solitary realizers. In any case, one abandons both the aspiration and engagement Bodhicitta. As it is said in the Compendium of Sutras: "Even if one practices the ten paths of virtuous action for hundreds of millions of eons, if one desires and practices for the sake of one's own peace, then that time the discipline has defects and the discipline is damaged. That generation of the mind is heavier than even the defeat of others." It is said. Abandoning a part of sentient beings is mentally abandoning some sentient beings, thinking that I should and can benefit them, but not benefiting them. That also abandons the Bodhicitta that focuses on sentient beings, so during the session, one should take back with a mind of benefiting those who have been abandoned in one's mind, and even if one does not actually benefit them, one should ensure that one's own mind is not harmed. Therefore, it is said: "Even if there is no power to benefit others, one should always have the thought of it. Whoever has that thought, that is the meaning for them."

Enter. (Thus) one should generate the intention to benefit all sentient beings. Fifth, one should remember the benefits of bodhicitta. As stated in the Sutra of Arrayed Trees: The mind of enlightenment is like the seed of all the Buddhas' teachings. In short, all the Buddhas' teachings and all the qualities of the Buddhas, the benefits of bodhicitta are also the same. Why is that? Because all the mandalas of the bodhisattvas' conduct arise from this, and all the Tathagatas who have appeared in the past, future, and present are also born from this. One should repeatedly remember such benefits. Furthermore, the scriptures say: In particular, those who wish to quickly attain direct realization should study the Mahayana sutra called the Seven Dharmas Requested by the Noble Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva. The meaning of that sutra is: Even with conceptual thoughts, one should not rely on desire, let alone engage in sexual intercourse. Even in dreams, one should not rely on evil friends, like a bird, the mind does not cling to anything, being skilled in both means and wisdom yet without arrogance, abandoning the clinging to reality, stabilizing the liberation of emptiness, acting with illusory wisdom because nothing is truly existent, abiding with pure superior intention towards sentient beings, and not slandering cause and effect. These seven dharmas are taught, therefore one should practice them. Also, the four black dharmas, and after the sin of abandoning sentient beings has arisen, if more than one-sixth of a day and night has passed, one should confess and take vows by abandoning the generation of bodhicitta, and then retake the vows. If an antidote arises within the time period, the time of confession is the same, whether early or late. The object of confession is a bodhisattva, or if one cannot be found, in front of someone who is at least a layperson with vows of individual liberation, one should say, "I have committed this transgression," and then confess. This section on aspiration bodhicitta is a teaching that has been passed down orally from Maitreya Buddha to Atiśa. The mind training, rituals, precepts, and vows here are not found in other scriptures, therefore Atiśa came to Tibet with only this and taking refuge.
