The stages of attaining perfect enlightenment, each with its own nature of self-awareness. This will be shown: First, like seeing a mirage, one sees a collection of five rays of light. Second, appearance, like the rays of the moon. Third, the increase of appearance, like the rays of the sun. Fourth, the attainment of appearance, like darkness. Then, in the instant of separation from darkness, light shines forth, extremely clear, with the nature of constant appearance, the self-nature of ultimate truth is seen with the eye of wisdom. Thus, having directly realized that all is emptiness, one focuses on meditative equipoise with this sequence. Its sequence is this: The water of a river or trough, like a mass of stainless, pure water abiding. Likewise, the yogi should constantly contemplate gradually destroying it in sequence. One should observe as the winds gradually cease on a mirror. Even in holding it as a whole, one should truly examine it with this order of action. Now, in order to dispel the confusion of those who are attached to names, we shall enter into some categories of names of ultimate truth. Among them, the first is luminosity, all is emptiness, Buddha wisdom, vajra wisdom, unsurpassed wisdom, stainless, and so on, up to that which exhausts all afflictions. Thus and so forth, it has been extensively explained. Chapter Eight, Cutting Doubts, Compendium on the Realm of Non-Abiding Nirvana. In this Vajrayana, having trained in the generation stage, one attains the eighth bhumi, and is born again and again in the happy realms, and until one attains the completion stage, one should please the virtuous friend. Having directly realized body, speech, and mind, one attains the tenth bhumi, and individually attains illusion-like samadhi. Having truly realized illusion-like samadhi, one individually attains pure appearance. Having arisen from non-appearance, by the order of abiding in union, one manifestly accomplishes the deeds of the Buddha. One will abide adorned with all the qualities of vajra-like samadhi. Thus and so forth, after quoting with scriptures, by whatever reasoning, the stages of perfect enlightenment are understood.

Therefore, in this way, having truly attained the clear light, the immaculate essence of its body, speech, and mind is entirely emptiness. The three consciousnesses are completely purified, being in the essence of the Perfection of Wisdom, where there is no thought, no speech, this is the realm of Nirvana: formless, difficult to touch, liberated from karma and birth, like the light of the sun, moon, fire, and jewels, the essence is clear. From that, the appearance of darkness arises, that is, approaching manifestation and so on. From approaching manifestation, due to the light of the clear sun, the essence of hotness appears, the appearance spreads. From that, due to the light rays of the clear moon, the cool essence pervades the appearance, the wisdom of pristine awareness arises. In the Glorious First Tantra, it is also said: From space, space arises, all is emptiness, space is vast. Therefore, emptiness becomes a single basis, the collection of appearances, like the one who manifests space, manifests all the world realms. Together with the subtle realms, like a shadow, the indivisible and indestructible Vajra body essence, without change, without defilement, liberated from all the habitual tendencies of afflictions, obtaining mastery merely through intention, like a fish in water, or like quickly falling asleep and waking up, with an exceedingly joyful body, the self-nature of the form will arise, the name of the one with the nature of form is the Great Vajradhara. Being definitely liberated from the bonds of samsara, therefore it is called liberation. And so on. In the Root Tantra, it is said: Emaho Vajra E Vajra Emaho Vajra Cho Tenpa (藏文:ཨེ་མའོ་རྡོ་རྗེ་ཆོས་བསྟན་པ།,梵文天城体:एमाहो वज्र धर्म देशय,梵文罗马拟音:emaho vajra dharma deshaya,汉语字面意思:诶玛卧金刚 宣说正法). Where there is no body, speech, and mind, there meditate on it as form. And so on. The Lord said: Emptiness is not in your body, there is no flesh, bones, and blood, like a rainbow in the sky, your body is shown. And so on. This perfect body of union can be applied to some categories of names: the form of the great wisdom being, abiding in the manner of the two truths, the essence is naturally clear light.
