Statement of the Ground. Subduing the darkness of desire, also subduing all kinds of afflictions. Being able to avert ignorance, that is definitely a vidyā-mantra to be spoken. Therefore, those with the lineage of cause, entering the mandala of their respective lineages, thereby accomplish as those lineages of fruit. Second, regarding the gateway to enter the means, there are two: receiving empowerment and abiding in one's own vows. First, where is the place of empowerment? It is the mandala. That also has three: four, path, and fruit. First, the dharmadhātu of the ordinary state of sentient beings, naturally pure, possessing temporary stains, and the wisdom and samādhi that adhere to the two selflessnesses are the mandala. That is also called a mandala because of clinging to the essence, or clinging to the essence. Second, from the perspective of past manifestations, the supreme bodhicitta of the Buddhas is the inner formless mandala. From that very wisdom, for the sake of those to be tamed, emanations such as the summit of Mount Meru and the Paranirmita-vaśavartin, possessing the nature of color and form, are the formed mandala. As it is said in the Caryā Tantra: The bodhicitta of all the Buddhas, having realized the unsurpassed, whatever wisdom is spoken by the Victorious Ones, that is said to be the essence of the mandala. Because it is said so. In the commentary on the Glorious Supreme Tantra, it is said: It is said to be the mandala possessing the nature of color and form. Because it is said so. From the perspective of the subsequent, the mind of the yogi, liberated from ordinary conceptual thoughts, the samādhi practiced like the emanation mandala of the Buddha, becoming the support for subsequent recollection, formless and formed. The two that are similar in form to that, depicted with pigments and paintings, etc., are called like the emanation mandala. That is also called a mandala because the essence of the essence of the sacred Dharma arises. In the Crown Tantra: For what reason is it a mandala? The essence of the essence of the sacred Dharma, arising, that is what is said to be the mandala. Great mandala, great secret. Great Dharma, very steadfast one. Because it is said so. The fruit is the Dharma that is free from all stains.

The circle is the mandala, holding it as the nature of essence, or because of holding the essence, it is the mandala. Moreover, from the perspective of the path stage, for those who are fond of the extensive, they enter the extensive mandala; for those who are fond of the intermediate, they enter the four-mudra mandala; for those who are fond of the concise, they enter the one-mudra mandala and receive empowerment. The ritual is divided into two: the ritual of the guru, from the preliminary practice to receiving permission, and the ritual of maturing the disciple's continuum, from requesting entry to dismissing the entrant. Here, the empowerment, as stated in "That is the differentiation of the six empowerments," includes the five wisdom consort empowerments, and the guru's empowerments: irreversible empowerment, secret empowerment, subsequent permission, prophecy, consolation, praise, these six are the guru's empowerments, totaling eleven. Alternatively, as stated in the Ye Thig Sutra: "Water and headdress, vajra and bell, name and conduct, and prophecy, bestowing refuge, mantra and mudra wisdom, those who are devoted to the yoga tantra, should bestow eight empowerments. Those who are devoted to the yoga guru, should bestow eleven self-natures." In connection with this meaning, the mantras and hand mudra wisdoms are made incidental as eight, and on top of that, three samayas are added, making it eleven. Regarding the vows, in the fourth of the twelve preparatory bonds, generating the mind in yoga is Vajrasattva established by name, because it is the arising of aspiration, it is called the aspiring mind. From the perspective of entering, from taking vows, with the wisdom of "entering the mandala," the vows are obtained with the mind of entering, because it is the moment of entering samaya. At the secret entry, what is obtained when wisdom descends is the reality of the great samaya. As stated in the Toptantra: "Thereafter, at the moment of descent, obtaining six kinds of supernormal powers, with a single drop of wisdom, manifesting unprecedented joy, as well as joy and satisfaction and excellence, all intelligence becomes manifest, and magical powers become complete." And as stated in the Kosala Ornament Sutra: "Here, the mind becomes stable, even if enlightenment has not been obtained, and even if one has been reborn in another life, one will not turn away from the Great Vehicle, that is Vajrasattva."
