It is said that if it cannot, it will be lost. Also, in the Pramāṇavārttika, it says, "A valid cognition does not apprehend, nor does it apprehend the absence of a result. Depending on a specific reason, knowing a small part as absent also has a result." etc., showing the unseen reason. Among them, the previous words "I" etc., show the visible unseen reason. For example, a place devoid of a pot has no pot, because it is visible, but the valid cognition does not see it. Afterwards, "person" etc., shows the invisible unseen reason. What is to be established cannot be determined as absent by valid cognition. Since the extremely hidden aeon meaning, which cannot be established as existent by phenomena and scriptures etc., is like that, therefore, the term "definitely existent" does not apply to the meaning. In general, although it may exist, because that person's subsequent valid cognition does not establish either existence or non-existence, the pervasion is established above. A sign with the characteristic of not arising if absent is the basis of inference, as the end of the second chapter of the Pramāṇavārttika says: "A sign with the characteristic of not arising if absent is the basis of inference." Such epistemology is said to have appeared in the teachings of Buddha Kāśyapa 20,000 years ago. And the teachings of our own school do not appear to have arisen earlier than the treatise Vādavidhi. Moreover, whether Master Vasubandhu composed it or not appears as a basis for doubt in India, but in reality it is thought to have been composed by the younger brother of Asaṅga. In the Abhidharmakośa it is said, "The composer is Vasubandhu." I wonder if he composed it. The logic of the outsiders, initially the sage Pūraṇa composed a treatise without former and later lives. Afterwards, in Jambudvīpa, one called Sage World-Eye composed the Pramāṇasūtra. Its commentary, composed by one called Sage Entering-Power, is said to have developed from this, as stated in the Avalokiteśvara-vrata. The proponents of permanence are the Sāṃkhya school's treatises, which expound the twenty-five principles of reality. These are stated in the Pramāṇasūtra: "If one leads the nature of reality through the path of logic, that is the most destructive of the Sugata's teachings. Even so, the characteristics of the Tathāgata's Dharma, if they become different, are worthy of investigation."
