Jealousy, stinginess, obesity, and arrogance should be reduced. 17. Do not throw away feces, urine, or things near them, this is the eighteenth. 18. Second, the sixteen root downfalls are: Eradicating the correct view by holding to nihilism. 1. Abandoning the Three Jewels, which means abandoning this Dharma. 2. Abandoning the conventional Bodhicitta, which means abandoning the Mahayana. 3. Abandoning empowerment, which means abandoning the Vajrayana. 4. Contradicting the Guru will cause all attainments to disappear, therefore it is called a root downfall, as stated in the Manjushri Root Tantra. In the Bhadrakalpika Sutra, it says: Killing parents, killing Arhats, creating division in the Sangha. 9. Drawing blood from the Tathagata with malicious intent. 10. These are the five inexpiable sins. Destroying stupas 11. Killing Bodhisattvas 23. Slandering Arhats 14. Killing learners. Stealing the property of the Sangha 14, these are the five near inexpiable sins. Harming the Three Jewels from the heart, it is said to be 10, 11 items. If these are done, one will not be able to attain accomplishment in this life, and will experience endless suffering. If these are summarized, they can be categorized into two types of vows: root vows and branch vows. The root is the sixteen root downfalls, and the branches include: all common things to do, specific things to do for householders and renunciates, and three things to do especially in certain situations. As stated in the Manjushri Root Tantra: The vows, in short, are of two types: root and branch. What are the vows that are called branches? These are all the vows obtained from relying on the four roots, including common, specific, and special. If these are summarized, they can be categorized into the five families of vows. In the Action Tantra, the five families are not accepted. In the commentary on the Immaculate Ushnishasutra, it says: The appearance of the five families of deities and the auspicious words of the five families are harmful. In reality, in order to accomplish extraordinary attainments, the main ones are categorized into the three families of Tathagata, Padma, and Vajra. It is not intended that their number is the same as the number of Buddha families, therefore saying that one cannot obtain the vows of the five families is just talk. The Secret General Tantra, the Bhadrakalpika Sutra, and the Well-Accomplished Sutra are the general scriptures of the Action Tantra.

All the classifications of conduct spoken of in the three Tantras are included in what has just been mentioned, and so are those of other particular Tantras. Third, the remedy if vows are broken: The General Tantra says: "If any of the vows spoken of before are broken, then recite one hundred thousand times the mantra that is the essence of each one." Or, ancient commentaries say that one should recite the dhāraṇī of the Vajra Invincible (Tibetan: རྡོ་རྗེ་མི་ཕམ་པ།), which bewilders like fire, for it is a dhāraṇī that bewilders. It is also acceptable to recite the dhāraṇī a thousand times. Or perform a pacifying fire offering. Or rely on a lama, or perform self-initiation, or from the well-accomplished onwards, perform the maṇḍala practice and offering oneself, and the empowerment is said to be performed by the lama or a vajra brother. "Enter the maṇḍala again." And so on. Second, the union has two aspects: the conventional, with-characteristics samādhi, and the ultimate, non-dual samādhi. The first includes the ritual of deity yoga and secret mantra meditation. The first is to purify oneself, protect the place and oneself, invite the deity to the image in front and make offerings. Then, in front of it, sit in the vajra posture that accords with one's own lineage. Meditate on the mind of enlightenment, luminous and clear, the nature of non-dual wisdom, empty of grasping and being grasped, free from the two selfs of person and phenomena, these five aggregates of my own suchness, which are like an illusion. Then, from the appearance of my own suchness being made manifest, transcend appearance, and meditate on the suchness of the deity, which is the suchness of my own suchness, equal in all respects, without appearance, until my own awareness becomes manifest. Arise from that and contemplate the sound of the secret mantra. For this, visualize the form of the letters of the mantra abiding in the sky. And visualize it becoming one with the disc of the moon, from which rays of light emanate and gather, creating the form of one's own chosen deity. Then, bless the crown of the head and so on with the expanded mantra, make it complete with limbs, and meditate on the deity with conceptualization. Like that, restrain the mind from wandering elsewhere, and hold the life force until the recitation is complete, or as much as one can. Restrain the life and effort greatly. And so on. The second is to visualize the
