Diligently rely on the teacher with two kinds of reverence and strive to practice the ways to please the teacher with three kinds of delight, thereby laying the foundation of the path. Then, recognize the nature of leisure and endowment itself, contemplate the great significance in terms of temporary and ultimate goals, and contemplate the difficulty of obtaining it through examples, nature, and causes. By contemplating for a long time through various reasons, generate a firm intention to not waste any moment and to extract the essence. The way to extract the essence is to gradually train the mind in the path of the three types of individuals. That is, even if one obtains such a perfect support of leisure and endowment, it will not remain for long, so one will definitely die, and there is no certainty when one will die, and at the time of death, nothing other than the Dharma will benefit oneself. By contemplating these reasons through various reasons, one should resolve not to be controlled by any affairs of this life, but to strive single-mindedly to meditate on this profound heart-essence instruction. Then, by contemplating the suffering of the lower realms, one should be terrified from the bottom of one's heart, and thereby gain confidence that the Three Jewels have the power to protect one from them, and then strive to take refuge with the precepts. By training in the path of the lower individual in this way, one turns away from this life and generates the thought of accomplishing only the affairs of the next life. Then, by examining and contemplating the faults of all existence, one desires to be liberated from that unstable place like a prison. Just as birds dwelling on a lake, when they see the lake freezing, do not cling to that place for even a moment, but desire to go elsewhere, one should turn away from all existence from the bottom of one's heart, and day and night one should think of ways to escape from this prison of samsara, and thus spontaneously generate the thought of seeking only liberation. To attain liberation, one must train in the three trainings of the path. Therefore, one must gain a deep understanding of the number, order, certainty, and unconfused nature of these three trainings. In particular, one should firmly recognize that all the qualities of the three vehicles depend on the power of pure morality, and thus guard the pure morality without being stained by even the slightest transgression with all the skill of a noble person.
