By contemplating scattering, (one can counteract) attachment to form. By contemplating being eaten by worms, (one can counteract) attachment to various postures. By contemplating bones connected by tendons, (one can counteract) attachment to smooth touch. Contemplate the decaying corpse, like an empty bladder blown by the wind. Contemplate that it is like a stone, not to be revered, (one can counteract) attachment to reverence such as washing feet. Furthermore, if explained separately: if attached to colors such as blue, one should contemplate the bluish-purple appearance. Similarly, if attached to a body smeared with sandalwood and other fragrances, if attached to the touch of intercourse, one should contemplate being eaten by worms. If attached to perfect form, one should contemplate the decaying appearance. If attached to a body adorned with ornaments, one should contemplate the blood-red appearance. If attached to a plump body, one should contemplate being eaten. If attached to play such as hugging and kissing, one should contemplate the scattered appearance. If attached to perfect color and form, one should contemplate the decaying appearance. If attached to white teeth, contemplating bones can pacify attachment. These are called the nine contemplations on impurity. Third, one should cultivate loving-kindness as an antidote to hatred. First, contemplate one's own mother, father, son, daughter, two relatives, or any one, wishing them to have all happiness. And think: I will make them have happiness. If capable, actually do it. When being with them, without jealousy, respectfully cultivate for a few days. Then gradually extend to someone slightly unpleasant, then to a moderate person, then to a lower enemy, a moderate enemy, and a fierce enemy. When one can have equality with these people as with one's mother, then extend to villages and cities, then to countries and regions, one or two continents, etc., until the thousand worlds, two thousand worlds, three thousand great thousand worlds, and the ten directions of the world, like the sands of the Ganges worlds are filled with loving-kindness. Then, as said in the scriptures, may they be free from suffering, rejoice in their freedom from suffering, and guide them to the path of liberation beyond the world. According to this order, cultivate compassion, joy, and equanimity. If one does not first contemplate loving-kindness with the characteristics of being lovable and pleasing, how can compassion that is free from suffering arise? Other orders are also like this.

O! Fourth, to meditate on dependent origination as an antidote to ignorance. What is dependent origination like? For example, with ignorance as a condition, volitional formations arise; with volitional formations as a condition, consciousness arises; with consciousness as a condition, name and form arise; with name and form as a condition, the six sense sources arise; with that as a condition, contact arises; with that as a condition, feeling arises; with that as a condition, craving arises; with that as a condition, grasping arises; with that as a condition, becoming arises; with that as a condition, birth arises; with that as a condition, aging and death arise, as well as sorrow, lamentation, wailing, suffering, distress, and agitation. In this way, only this mass of suffering arises. One should observe with the eye of wisdom and eliminate causelessness, etc. This meaning is stated in the Vinaya Pitaka of the Noble Bodhisattva: Wherever ignorance arises, the cause of affliction is not according to the Dharma; its condition is volitional formations; suffering is continuously born. Thus. Having thus believed in the order of the arising of existence, one should also keep in mind from the cessation of ignorance to the complete cessation of this mass of suffering. Then, one should firmly grasp that it is not permanent, not annihilation, not transference, entering into a similar continuum, and that a great result arises from a small cause. For example, external seeds, from which fruit arises, and these causes and conditions are related, namely the four elements and the element of time. These twelve aspects alone appear, and from arising and ceasing, eliminating causelessness and incompatible causes, here, by briefly contemplating dependent origination, wisdom is generated, and the nature of ignorance or the wrong views arising from it are abandoned. If one wishes to contemplate in detail, one should contemplate their respective characteristics, names and meanings, different functions, being completely summarized by the five aggregates, from three arising two, from two arising seven, from seven arising three, being established in the nature of the three times, and the relationship with conditions. Likewise, from self-arising, other-arising, both-arising, and cause
