And, this is because of realizing that the nature of mind is completely pure and luminous, and, in order to realize that sudden afflictions are exhausted and ceased because they have not arisen from the beginning. Thus it is said. The way to realize how many is: with the wisdom of transcendental wisdom, realizing all objects, knowable things, and their ultimate suchness, the nature of all omniscience, the Tathagatagarbha, for all sentient beings as pervading in nature, seeing manifestly with their own self-aware wisdom, therefore, the subject of dharma, how many exist, is the wisdom of omniscience itself. Thus it is said. Seeing that also arises from the first ground, in order to realize the meaning of the Dharma realm pervading all. These are also shown to be completely pure: as such and how many the wisdom of omniscience, realizing what the transcendental path is, that is uncommon, seen by the noble ones with their own self-aware wisdom, and, that also pervades all, the Dharma realm of naturally stainless, because of entering, so there is no obscuration of afflictions with attachment, and, because of realizing that pervades all knowable things, so there is no obscuration of the knowable with obstruction, therefore, these two wisdoms are very completely pure relative to seeing with mundane wisdom. Thus it is said. Showing that all of them are the refuge is: as such and how many the wisdom of omniscience, observing the object, because of being completely pure from the obscuration of attachment and obstruction, therefore, the observation of the Buddha's wisdom is unsurpassed, and because of abiding nearby, so the noble ones who directly see the Dharma nature, those who do not turn back from perfect enlightenment, are, becoming the refuge that protects all sentient beings from the suffering of samsara. Thus it is said. The way to establish the three refuges is threefold: the way to establish them as three from the perspective of need, the way that the latter two are not ultimate refuges, and determining the ultimate refuge. Among them, the way to establish them as three is:

The ultimate refuge, explaining the virtues of the Buddha, with its meaning, from seeing its virtues, among the three vehicles, the Mahayana practitioners seek the Buddha himself as the goal; among the three types of agents, they delight in acting as the supreme of those who regard the Buddha as the best of the two-legged beings; in terms of the wishes of these people, among the three refuges, the Buddha himself is established as the first refuge. His teachings, explaining the virtues of the sacred Dharma, with its meaning, from seeing its virtues, among the three vehicles, the Pratyekabuddha vehicle practitioners, who themselves wish to realize and attain the profound Dharma of dependent origination; among the three types of agents, they delight in acting as the supreme of those who are free from attachment to the Dharma; in terms of the wishes of these people, among the three refuges, the Dharma is established as the second refuge. Entering the door of the teachings, explaining the virtues of the disciple Sangha, with its meaning, from seeing its virtues, among the three vehicles, the Shravaka vehicle practitioners, who follow the teachings of others, wishing to attain that fruit; among the three types of agents, they delight in acting as the supreme of the Sangha assembly; in terms of the wishes of these people, among the three refuges, the Sangha is established as the third refuge. In short, with three meanings, in terms of the wishes of six types of people, the establishment of these three refuges is taught for the purpose of guiding sentient beings to enter gradually. The way in which the latter two are not ultimate refuges is: briefly, it is declared that the Dharma and Sangha are not ultimate refuges. Among them, the Dharma of scripture, which is composed of collections of names, sentences, and letters, although it is a basis for understanding only the general meaning, it should be abandoned like a raft after crossing a river when the path is directly realized. There are also two types of realization Dharma, the Dharma of the path by which one realizes, is characterized by conditioned phenomena, impermanent, untrue, false like the patterns of clouds, and is a deceptive Dharma; the Dharma of cessation that one realizes by it, although it is the ultimate Buddha himself, in the manner of the Shravakas, it is like cutting off the continuation of a lamp.
