. Therefore, the history of the lineage is told. So it is said. Therefore, telling the history of the sacred Dharma is very important and has many necessities. As it is said in the "Bodhisattva's Deeds: The Wish-Fulfilling Tree": "The path to happiness, both seen and unseen, is illuminated by the light of good speech, like a lamp. The taste of the nectar of good speech, those with experience pour down a rain of great joy. Good speech makes even those who seek the meaning of things become seekers of omniscience. Therefore, for the holy ones, there is nothing comparable to good speech." In accordance with this, it is most reasonable to adorn the ear ornaments of those with wisdom with a garland of well-spoken words. It is like this: Although the ocean and rivers are squeezed many times, no matter who squeezes them, they cannot be exhausted. This principle is also like that, although previous generations have written many times, good speech is still the crown jewel of the wise. Also, as it is said in the "Entering the Bodhisattva's Way": "I have not spoken of anything that has not been said before, nor do I have the skill of composition." Such good speech (Volume 1, page 8) will undoubtedly be of great benefit to oneself and to those who have the same capacity. As it is said therein: "If others who have the same capacity as me see this, it will also become meaningful." Therefore, based on the treatises, biographies, and oral traditions composed by the wise men of the past, a brief account of the origin of the Kama teachings, known as the Great Secret Nyingma, will be explained in eight points: First, the manner in which the teacher who revealed the teachings appeared, and how he taught the sacred Dharma that he revealed. How this teaching spread in India and Tibet. From this, how the early Nyingma Vajrayana teachings and the individuals who held the tenets arose. In particular, how the Terma teachings widely developed. From this, the manner in which the inner profound pure visions appeared. The lineage of how many monasteries and lineage holders exist today. Incidentally, how those known as the New Tantras arose, along with related content. And the latter four of the five sciences, along with their branches.

I will explain the status of Dharma and teachings, dividing it into eight chapters for sequential discussion. (Volume 1, p. 9) First General Topic: Concerning the manner in which the Teacher, the Buddha, appeared in the world. The way in which the basis, vessel, and essence of the world where the Teacher appeared were formed. The first point is: Generally, regarding the manner in which the Teacher appeared, it includes both the establishment of the basis, vessel, and essence of the world where the Teacher appeared, and the manner in which the Buddha appeared in the world. First, concerning the establishment of the realm of the world, generally, the Victorious Ones do not perceive the world with attachment, and for the same object, sentient beings have impure appearances, yogis have experiential appearances, and Buddhas have pure appearances. Ultimately, it does not abide anywhere, yet it appears as anything, and although they appear separately, they do not contradict each other. For many sentient beings with shared karma, it appears in common, and to subdue attachment to these appearances, corresponding Dharma teachings are taught, so it is established and proclaimed in accordance with the way it appears in the minds of these beings. Therefore, in the Sutras, Tantras, and Shastras, there are many different statements about the establishment of the world. In reality, as long as space exists, on a single atom, within a space the size of an atom or a hair, the body and field of the Victorious Ones pervade for the measure of the three times, so it is immeasurable and impossible to grasp the boundary. (Volume 1, p. 10) Among these, this place where we dwell is like a begging bowl in the hand of the great ocean of appearances, with twenty-five layers of lotus stalks and stamens. Above the thirteenth layer is what is called the heart of the essence of the field, adorned with the foundation and the heart-essence flower, which is even more essential than the essence of the field. The bodhisattvas of this field especially possess the quality of patience, and therefore it is called the world of endurance. Below it, the wind mandala is six million yojanas in height and immeasurable in width. Above it, the great mass of water formed by the rain falling from the golden yoke of great clouds surges to the abode of Brahma, and the golden foundation forms and presses down, the water wheel is eighty million kotis of yojanas deep. The golden foundation is three hundred and forty thousand yojanas. Above it is filled with water, and in the center is Mount Sumeru, with four steps. The east is silver, the south is blue beryl.

To the east is crystal, to the south is blue lapis lazuli, to the west is ruby, and to the north is made of gold, said to be eighty thousand yojanas in height. The height is also eighty thousand yojanas, with twenty-five thousand yojanas submerged in the sea and half rising above the sea. The seven golden mountains that surround Mount Meru to shield it are: Yoke-Holder Mountain, Axle-Holder Mountain, Sandalwood-Holder Mountain, Beautiful-to-Behold Mountain, Horse-Ear Mountain, Elephant-Nose Mountain, and Circumference-Holder Mountain. The tops of the outer seven mountains reach halfway up the inner mountains. Outside Mount Meru, they encircle in squares, with seven playful oceans and many continents to enjoy in between. Outside of that is the salty ocean, in which the three continents of East Videha are shaped like half-moons (upper part, 11), the three continents of South Jambudvipa are shaped like carts or plows, the three continents of West Godaniya are round, and the three continents of North Kuru are square. Their respective materials are the same as Mount Meru, but when there is conflict, the jewels disappear and appear as ordinary land. The shapes of people's faces are the same as their respective continents, and their ways of decorating and enjoying are also different. Outside the ocean, the Iron Mountain encircles like a circumference, and below Jambudvipa are the abodes of hell and hungry ghosts. Rakshasa Continent is inhabited by rakshasas, so other than humans, Omniscient Longchenpa considers it to be so. The four continents and other subcontinents are in the hollow of Mount Meru, with asuras. Below half of the mountainside are the gods of the Four Great Kings. Moving in the sky are the gods of immeasurable palaces such as the sun, moon, planets, and stars. Above that, the mountainside is inhabited by the kinds of protectors. At the top is the actual abode of the Thirty-Three Gods. In the Palace of Perfect Victory is the king of the gods, Indra. There are thirty-two attendants. The elephant is a white Bulava stone slab that protects the land. The Good Dharma Hall is the assembly place of the gods. There are four gardens. The All-Gathering Tree and other things possess boundless wealth. Above that, in order, are the Heaven of No Strife, Tushita, Nirmanarati, and Paranirmitavasavartin, the four heavens. Above that, in the measurable sky, they form like clouds. Body, lifespan, and enjoyment are increasingly superior from the lower to the higher. Below this is called the Desire Realm. Above that are seventeen places in the Form Realm. Then the four Formless Realms reach the peak of existence. They are all free from desire (upper part, 12) and live by samadhi. The Desire and Form Realms have their own kings, etc., and the Formless Realm starts from oneself
