By inappropriate attention, differentiate karma and afflictions. Karma and afflictions are like water, from which arise aggregates, sources, and elements. As they disintegrate and arise, so too are birth and death. The nature of mind is like the realm of space, without cause or condition. Without assembly, without birth, and without disintegration or abiding. The nature of mind is clear light, unchanging like the sky. Desire and so forth, arising from unrealized understanding, do not afflict it with sudden stains. Karma and afflictions, like water, do not cause it to manifest. The fires of death, sickness, and old age do not burn it with unpleasantness. The three fires of ordinary hell at the end of time, the three fires of death, sickness, and old age, should be understood in that order. Liberated from birth, death, sickness, and old age, realize its nature as it is. Although free from the poverty of birth and so on, yet because of that cause, rely on it in order to generate compassion for beings. The noble ones have completely abandoned the suffering of death, sickness, and old age. Born by the power of karma and afflictions, without that, there is no this. For the sake of truly seeing correctly, although having transcended birth and so on, yet with the essence of compassion, they show birth, death, old age, and sickness. Having realized this unchanging dharma nature, bodhisattvas criticize the pure birth and so on seen by the blind of ignorance. Showing the realm of activity of the noble ones as the realm of activity of children, therefore it is the means of friends of beings and supreme compassion. Although they have transcended all the world, they do not move from the world. For the benefit of the world, in the world, they act without being stained by the defilements of the world. Just as a lotus is born in water, it is not stained by water. Likewise, this one is born in the world, but is not stained by the dharmas of the world. Always with intelligence accomplishing activities, blazing like fire. Constantly entering into the equipoise of peaceful contemplation. Because of the power of previous actions and having abandoned all conceptual thoughts. They do not strive for the benefit of ripening sentient beings. Whether by teachings and form bodies, or by behavior and conduct. By what means, how, and by whom one tames, by that, that is known as it is. Thus, like the infinity of space, constantly spontaneously accomplishing. The unobstructed, intelligent one truly engages for the benefit of sentient beings.

This principle should be known: The Tathāgatas (如来,Tathāgata, Tathāgata, Thus Gone One) and sentient beings after attainment, Are equal in all the worlds, However, like dust and sea foam, There are differences in the traces of an ox's hoof, The difference between the Buddha (佛,Buddha, Buddha, Awakened One) and the Bodhisattva (菩提萨埵,Bodhisattva, Bodhisattva, Enlightenment Being), Is due to the immutable, non-self, and inexhaustible Dharma (法,Dharma, Dharma, Law/Teaching), Protecting beings until the ultimate end, Therefore, it is always non-dual and without conceptualization, The indestructible Dharma is unconditioned. Without birth and without death, and also without harm, Without aging, therefore it is constant and firm, Peaceful, therefore it is eternally stable, Because it is the nature of mind itself, Unborn, constant, and unchanging, Because of inconceivable death and passing, Therefore, it is imperishable and firm, Because of the subtle habitual diseases, Harmless, therefore it is peaceful, Because of the unpolluted manifest actions, Eternal, therefore there is no aging. In those two lines, each is thus, Know the two and two lines in order, In the realm of the unconditioned, The meanings of constant, etc., should be known. Because it possesses inexhaustible qualities, Immutable, non-self is the meaning of constant, Because it is equal to the end of the boundary, The nature of protection is the meaning of firm, Because of the nature of non-conceptualization, The nature of non-duality is the meaning of peaceful, Because of the nature of uncreated qualities, The meaning of indestructible is eternal. Why is that? Because it is the Dharmakāya (法身,Dharmakāya, Dharmakāya, Dharma Body), it is the Tathāgata (如来,Tathāgata, Tathāgata, Thus Gone One), It is the ultimate truth of the noble truths, Nirvāṇa (涅槃,Nirvāṇa, Nirvāṇa, Cessation), Therefore, like the sun and its rays, the qualities are inseparable, There is no Nirvāṇa (涅槃,Nirvāṇa, Nirvāṇa, Cessation) apart from Buddhahood (佛,Buddha, Buddha, Awakened One). In short, in the realm of the unpolluted, With four kinds of meaningful distinctions, The four kinds of Dharmakāya (法身,Dharmakāya, Dharmakāya, Dharma Body) and so on, One should know the four kinds of names. The Buddha (佛,Buddha, Buddha, Awakened One) and the Dharma (法,Dharma, Dharma, Law/Teaching) are inseparable, That nature is thus attained, Because of the true and non-deceptive Dharma nature, The original nature is peaceful. Perfectly manifesting complete enlightenment, And abandoning all defilements and habitual tendencies, The Nirvāṇa (涅槃,Nirvāṇa, Nirvāṇa, Cessation) of the Buddha (佛,Buddha, Buddha, Awakened One) is, The essence of ultimate non-duality. Countless and boundless forms, Inconceivable and immaculate qualities, Inseparable nature is liberation, Whatever liberation is, that is the Tathāgata (如来,Tathāgata, Tathāgata, Thus Gone One). Like a skilled painter, Is proficient in all kinds of different arts, If one knows all the parts, He will surely be confused about the rest. After this, all of you, Create an image of me, Thus, the king commanded, And gave them cloth, Having heard that, they were all delighted, And diligently engaged in the work of painting. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
