Because the Buddha's body is pervasive, and the suchness is undifferentiated, and because it possesses the Buddha-nature, therefore all sentient beings constantly possess the Tathagatagarbha (Buddha-nature). Because the Buddha's wisdom enters the minds of sentient beings, its nature is immaculate and non-dual, and because the Buddha-nature is the proximate cause of attaining Buddhahood, it is said that all beings possess the Tathagatagarbha. The meaning of essence, cause, effect, function, aspect, and the meaning of function, as well as the state of being constant and having undifferentiated qualities, is said to be the intent of the ultimate secret. Like jewels, space, and water, the Tathagatagarbha is always without self-nature of afflictions. It possesses faith in the Dharma, excellent wisdom, and the power arising from meditation and compassion, and it does not change, possessing a moist nature. These are all in accordance with the qualities of jewels, space, and water. Towards the Dharma, there is no anger, no self-view, no fear of the suffering of samsara, and no disregard for the benefit of sentient beings. For intense desire, heretics, Shravakas, and self-born ones, there are four obscurations. Faith in the supreme vehicle and the other four qualities are the cause of purification. Faith in the Mahayana is the seed, wisdom is the mother who gives birth to the Buddha's Dharma, the bliss of meditation is the womb, and compassion is the nurturer. Those are the descendants of the Buddha. Purity, autonomy, bliss, and permanence are the qualities and fruits of the perfections. Having the intention and aspiration to renounce suffering and attain peace. These fruits, in brief, are liberation from the four states that are the opposite of the Dharmakaya (Body of Truth), distinguished by the application of antidotes. Because of its pure nature and the abandonment of habitual tendencies, it is pure. Because it has pacified the elaboration of self and non-self, it is supreme autonomy. Because it has reversed the nature of consciousness, the aggregates, and their causes, it is bliss. Because it has realized the equality of samsara and nirvana, it is permanent. Because it has cut off all self-love with wisdom and cherishes sentient beings, it does not attain peace. Therefore, relying on wisdom and compassion as the means of enlightenment, the noble ones do not change in samsara or nirvana. If the Tathagatagarbha did not exist, there would be no weariness of suffering, and no desire and pursuit of nirvana. If one sees the faults and merits of suffering and happiness in samsara and nirvana, it is because one possesses the Buddha-nature, and those without the Buddha-nature would not have these feelings. Like the great ocean, it possesses immeasurable and boundless qualities, a treasure that cannot be exhausted. Like a lamp, it possesses undifferentiated qualities and essence, it is the Dharmakaya. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To encompass the wisdom and compassionate essence of all Buddhas, it is likened to a vessel and precious water, like the ocean. In the stainless realm, manifest wisdom and stainless wisdom itself, because there is no distinction, are like the light and warmth of a lamp having the same nature. To enable beings to realize the Tathāgata nature of their respective ordinary beings, noble ones, and complete perfect Buddhas, by observing the Tathāgatagarbha, the heart essence of the Buddhas is revealed to sentient beings. Ordinary beings are inverted, reversing the realization of truth; Tathāgatas are as they are, without inversion, without elaboration. From impure to impure, then to pure, and finally to extremely pure, they are successively called sentient beings, Bodhisattvas, and Tathāgatas. The six meanings, such as essence, are summarized here, and the nature is indicated by three names in three states. Like the non-conceptual self-nature, as space universally follows, the self-nature of mind is the stainless Dharmadhatu, similarly universally present. This is the universal characteristic, the ultimate pervasion of faults and virtues; like space for inferior, intermediate, and supreme forms. Because faults are temporary and virtues are inherent in self-nature, it is like before, so it is after, the unchanging Dharma nature. Just as space is universal, because it is subtle, it is not stained, similarly, this place (Tathāgatagarbha) is not stained by all sentient beings. Just as in all worlds, space arises and ceases, in the unconditioned Dharmadhatu, the faculties arise and cease. Just as space is never burned by flames, this (Tathāgatagarbha) is not burned by the flames of death, disease, and old age. Earth exists in water, water exists in wind, and wind exists in space. And space does not exist in the elements of wind, water, and earth. Similarly, the aggregates, realms, and sources exist in karma and afflictions. Karma and afflictions always exist in inappropriate attention. Inappropriate attention exists in the purity of mind. The self-nature of mind does not abide in all dharmas. Know that the aggregates are like earth, and the sources and realms should also be known. Know that the karma and afflictions of sentient beings are like the water element. Inappropriate attention should be regarded as like the wind element. Self-nature, like the space element, does not abide in conditioned phenomena. Inappropriate attention exists in the self-nature of mind. Appropriate attention... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
