‘Suchness’ (བཞིན་ཉིད་, *tathātā*) means that the Suchness of the Buddha is the Essence Body (ངོ་བོ་ཉིད་ཀྱི་སྐུ་, *svabhāvikakāya*) or Dharma Body (ཆོས་ཀྱི་སྐུ་, *dharmakāya*). It is contradictory to say that all sentient beings have Suchness, but not the Buddha and the Dharma Body. In ‘The Collection of Precious Qualities’: ‘The past Suchness is the Suchness of the future Buddha; the present Suchness is the Suchness of the Arhat; the Suchness of all Dharmas is the Suchness of the Victorious Ones; these Suchnesses of Dharma are without any distinction.’ The Prajñāpāramitā (ཤེར་ཕྱིན་, Perfection of Wisdom), the mother of the Buddhas of the three times, is also spoken of in the Dharmadhātu (ཆོས་དབྱིངས་, Realm of Dharma): ‘The past and future Protectors of the ten directions, although born from this, the Dharmadhātu will not be exhausted.’ Just as trees, fruits, flowers, and forests all arise and appear from the earth, yet the earth does not decrease or increase. This shows that some practitioners of the Perfection of Wisdom who consider Prajñāpāramitā to be ‘conditioned phenomena’ (འདུས་བྱས་, *saṃskṛta*) are like shepherds who spend their lives herding sheep without recognizing what a sheep truly is. The Dharmadhātu, Great Bodhi (བྱང་ཆེན་, Great Awakening), Ultimate Buddha (དོན་དམ་སངས་རྒྱས་, Ultimate Buddha), and Dharma Body are similar to space. Wherever space pervades, the Dharmadhātu, Great Bodhi, etc., also pervade. As it says in the *Ghanavyūha Sūtra* and the *Guhyasamāja Tantra*: ‘O Peaceful Intelligence, space pervades all forms; similarly, the Dharma Body of the Tathāgata pervades all sentient beings. O Peaceful Intelligence, all forms are contained within space; similarly, all sentient beings are contained within the Dharma Body of the Tathāgata.’ Furthermore, it is said: ‘Some people make various analogies for the Buddha's teachings, but they do not understand the Buddha; they are slandering the Victorious One.’ There is only one appropriate analogy for this, which is the realm of space. It is similar to the Buddha's teachings and cannot be measured anywhere. Even the crown of the head of the Protector of the World is similar to the realm of space. The Buddha's discipline and the wisdom of liberation only reach that extent. It is also said: ‘As vast as space is, so vast is the Buddha's body.’ Maitreya (བྱམས་མགོན་, Loving Protector) also holds this view literally. In the *Uttaratantra*: ‘Having thoroughly churned all vehicles, it pervades like the vast sky, without beginning or end.’ The Buddha, as a treasure of stainless qualities, impartially views all sentient beings. It is also said: ‘Because it is vast and without beginning or end, Bodhi has the nature of space.’ This is also stated in the *Mahāyānasaṃgraha*. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Regarding the aspect of proclaiming the Great Vehicle: 'Just as space is always all-pervading, so too, this (Tathāgatagarbha) is always all-pervading. Just as space transforms all forms, so too, this (Tathāgatagarbha) pervades all sentient beings.' And in its commentary, it says, 'The Buddha's all-pervasiveness should be understood as the Buddha's promise that all sentient beings are himself.' Therefore, since the one who promises is the Buddha himself, this refutes the statement by some that the Buddha does not pervade all sentient beings with activity, but rather pervades them with activity. Therefore, it is highly unreasonable to say that the statement in the final teaching that the Buddha dwells in all sentient beings is obstructed by the intention explained by the *Uttaratantra* and its commentary, the necessity of the explanation, and the harm to reality. Because there is no need to search for other four intentions, the final teaching is definitive, appearing as it is, and is the Great Madhyamaka. If it is placed in the provisional meaning because there is a need, that would be too extreme. The inferences that you consider to be harmful to reality are based on the assumption that sentient beings have not yet attained Buddhahood and that Buddha-nature is hidden. Then, you refute by assuming that Buddhahood has been attained and that Buddha-nature is manifest. This is like setting up a target in the east and shooting arrows to the west. In reality, there is no harm to reality at all, and there are countless correct arguments that have already been explained. For example, in the *Uttaratantra*, it is first stated in summary: 'The complete Buddha's Dharmakāya, because it has radiance, because it is inseparable from Suchness, and because it has the lineage, all embodied beings, constantly have the essence of the Buddha.' Then, through nine similes, it is explained in detail that all sentient beings have defiled Buddha-nature. In the first simile, 'Similarly, the Tathāgata in places like Avīci hell, sees his own nature with the adornments of the Buddha.' In the second simile, 'Similarly, the uncontaminated wisdom that sentient beings have is like honey.' In the third simile, 'Similarly, the Lord of Dharma is not liberated from the bud of afflictions.' In the fourth simile, 'Similarly, the complete precious Buddha, fallen into the great impurity of afflictions, seeing sentient beings, the Victorious One teaches the Dharma to purify them.' In the fifth simile, 'Similarly, the treasure of Dharma dwelling in the house of the mind, sentient beings are like the poor, in order for them to obtain it, a true sage is born in the world.' In the sixth simile, within the skin-like covering of the fruits of ignorance, etc., of sentient beings. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
