Now, it is always dry, parched, and full of harmful thoughts, so that even a moment of knowledge cannot arise in the Dharma, and the suffering of being mostly born in hell after death, etc. In such situations, it is not that others will be born, but that I will not be born. It is not that I have not been born before and will not be born now. If the cause is not abandoned, one must certainly be born. Once born, all those sufferings must be experienced. If life is short, it is better, but life is also extremely long. The Abhidharmakosha says, "Five hundred of the days and nights of the month." This means that if one month's days and nights are counted as one year, one can live to five hundred years. Counting it as human years, the Letter to a Friend says, "Those who constantly endure suffering, those who use the ropes of evil deeds, some beings bound by firmness, do not die even after five thousand or ten thousand years." That is what it means. In Gyal Lhakhang (temple name), there was a person named Tsa Dor Tsel, who was very attached to Gyalwa (place name). Putowa said to him, "You are too attached to this place of Gyal Lhakhang. If you are born as a hungry ghost due to the ripening of attachment, you will not be able to bear it at that time. Then, if you are born here again, you will not even know where this place called Gyal Lhakhang is." He thought for a moment and was unhappy. Narthangpa Droton said, "Things themselves change like that, we have not understood it at all." After thinking like that, he believed in the suffering of hunger and thirst of hungry ghosts, and also believed that it arose from stinginess. If one can cut off one's own flesh and give it away, what need is there to mention external things? Sharawa said that. Then, regarding animals, and even hell itself, is there more suffering than that? He said many things like that, and all those must be carefully contemplated. In general, there are different kinds of animals, said to be thirty-four billion kinds. If all these are summarized, they can be summarized into two types: those who live in the aggregate and those who are scattered. Among them, the animals that live in the aggregate are said to be as numerous as the sediment of beer in the darkness between the outer sea and the continents.

Sa. Scattered animals, said to be in the realm of desire gods, and those who live with humans, are indeed so. If we consider their general suffering, the teacher Nagarjuna says: In the realm of animals, there is also killing, bondage, beating, and various kinds of suffering. For those who have abandoned virtue, they devour each other, which is extremely terrible. Some die for the sake of pearls, wool, bones, blood, meat, and skin. Or, because of foolishness and delusion, their knowledge is not good, they become dull, and they are always as if being pressed down by a great mountain. All the heat and cold are like hell, and all the hunger and thirst are like hungry ghosts. In particular, the animals living in the depths of the ocean are all pressed down by the weight of the water, and those living above, if the sun shines too much, it is like a hot hell, and if there is no sun and the wind blows too much, it is like a cold hell. The beings living in the darkness between continents cannot see even when they stretch and contract their limbs. When they scratch with their hands, they grab their own flesh, then scratch and eat it. They devour each other, the big ones swallow the small ones, and the small ones scratch the big ones to eat, and so on. The suffering is immeasurable. All dragons suffer from the harm of Garuda, and if they do not have jewels, they suffer from seven showers of gravel every day. Scattered birds, mice, and wild animals also suffer from the harm of Garuda, and all except those of their own kind are like enemies, causing fear and suffering. Those who live with humans are, as it is said: Involuntarily, they are kicked and beaten by others, struck with hammers and hooks, and then driven. As it is said, they are driven even when they are tired, and they are driven even when they are broken, without any choice. All food and drink depend on the hands of humans, so they have no autonomy. All the beatings and blows are like treating inanimate objects, suffering from the pain inflicted by humans, and the pain within themselves is also immeasurable. Wherever animals are born, it is only suffering. Regarding their lifespan, the longest lifespan among animals is a kalpa. For example, the lifespan of dragon kings can reach a kalpa, and some animals die day by day before their lifespan is exhausted.
