That holders of discipline, yogis, and holders of the canon, or anyone else, do not refrain from discord in the community is because they have not contemplated this. Here, some people boast with divination, and one who resembles a mantra practitioner says: "Does your teacher not have everyone meditate on emptiness thoroughly?" He said that if he were to give you advice, he would ruin his own intelligence and stupidity, and he spoke correctly. If contemplating this leads to turning away from sin, then the training in higher ethics of the intermediate person's stage will also come naturally. The ethics of the bodhisattva vows are also the same. Geshe Tonpa said: "All the talk about the vows of secret mantra being very important is nothing more than abandoning the ten non-virtues." When I had an audience with the master, he acted as if he were cutting off his hand, saying, "Jowo (Lord), I have completely cut off, there is nothing other than abandoning the ten non-virtues." Therefore, if there is no foundation like the teachings of the small person, then there will be no middle floor like the intermediate person, and no top floor with cloud ladders like the superior person. Therefore, it is now crucial to stabilize the mind of the small person. If that is missing, it will become arrogant. Khampa Lungpa also said: "The higher Dharma is good, but the lower one is more important." The characteristics of the intermediate person. The characteristics of the intermediate person are: turning one's back on the happiness of samsara, and having the nature of turning away from sinful actions. Whoever seeks only their own peace, that person is called an intermediate person. It is said that not only should one abandon the suffering of the lower realms, but also recognize that all things that appear to be the happiness of samsara are by nature suffering and deceptive, and therefore turn away from them without attachment. Furthermore, all actions and afflictions that create samsara are here called sins. Therefore, the individual who relies on turning away from such sinful actions, and who seeks only the attainment of peace, the one-sided liberation of nirvana, is called an intermediate person among the three types of individuals. Among them, "who" refers to the small person seeking the happiness of samsara, and "only" refers to the great person, sentient beings.

The intermediate being excludes both those who do not aim for their own benefit and those who aim for Nirvana. The method of learning about its characteristics is: Sharawa the Great said to all the elders of Gongmowa, "Let alone the suffering of the three lower realms, wherever you are born in samsara, there is suffering. You should know that there is no happiness at all, and you should be disgusted with samsara like wanting to escape from prison. Or, like a bird on a frozen lake, knowing that there is no place to stay, that is called an intermediate being." If you have such a thought, you should hurry to learn the methods of liberation from samsara and strive to practice the three paths, rather than putting out a fire that suddenly burns on your clothes or head. As he said, first you must understand suffering, and in order to abandon the cause of suffering, the origin of suffering, you must rely on the three paths, thereby realizing the cessation of suffering, which is to practice in the manner of the Four Noble Truths. The method of understanding suffering is: As mentioned above, learn the characteristics of the lesser being, thereby believing in karma and abandoning evil and doing good, so that you can independently obtain a good rebirth. But a good rebirth is also the basis for achieving liberation. Wherever you are born in samsara, there is no happiness, only suffering. As Sharawa said, even if you only obtain a good rebirth, there is no happiness, only suffering. Even if you are born as a human being, you are always tormented by the eight sufferings of birth and so on. First, the so-called suffering of birth, for those who have not accumulated merit, when their consciousness in the intermediate state enters the mother's womb, they will feel like they are entering darkness, a dense thicket of thorns, or falling off a cliff. For those who have accumulated merit, they will feel like they are in a tall building or entering a magnificent palace. After that, the essence of the parents and the consciousness of the intermediate state mix together to form a sprout of name and form. This sprout gradually changes, and every seven days, when the five senses are formed, it will feel like being tightly bound by iron chains and wooden yokes, and being pierced by sharp wooden stakes. The place where it is located is below the undigested food, above the digested food, and between impure things. Sharawa said: What kind of desire is it now?
