That is the truth of suffering. That is only suffering, and there is no self of the sufferer. It arises from the accumulation of causes, actions, and afflictions. That is only accumulation, and there is no self of the doer. The cessation of those two is the truth of cessation. That is only cessation, and there is no self of the one who ceases. It arises from the three trainings of the path, so it is the truth of the path. That is only the path, and there is no self of the one who cultivates the path. The aspects of the four truths: impermanence, suffering, emptiness, selflessness. The aspects of cause, accumulation, arising, and condition. Cessation, peace, excellence, and definite emergence. Path, reason, practice, and definite deliverance. The sixteen aspects of the four truths, once thoroughly realized as the selflessness of the person, one can attain the fruits from stream-enterer to arhat with remainder and without remainder. On top of that, by meditating on dependent origination, one attains the liberation of a solitary buddha. To that, the Sarvastivadins, who hold to extremes, believe that all nirvana is the nature of the ten non-learning dharmas or the five uncontaminated aggregates. The Sautrantikas believe that it is like ice melting on a lake or clouds clearing in the sky, merely the separation of coarse objects. One cannot abandon moments and subtle particles. This is called a middling person. Thus, regarding the characteristics of a middling person, learning in the manner of the four truths, the inferior one says that there are two orders of the four truths: the order of explanation and the order of practice. According to the explanation, suffering should be known, accumulation should be abandoned, cessation should be realized, and the path should be relied upon. According to the practice, when a sick person is afflicted by illness, he relies on a skilled doctor. The doctor first diagnoses the illness, then prepares medicine that is beneficial for the illness, and when the illness is cured, happiness naturally arises. Similarly, when a person who understands that all of samsara is suffering relies on a lama, he ascertains that the root of suffering is the truth of accumulation. To abandon it, he practices the antidote, the three trainings of the path, thereby completely separating from the suffering of the three realms, which is the truth of cessation. That is the order of practice. In general, the one with the potential for bodhi

They are placed in three categories. They are placed among gods and humans without lineage. As it is said, although those of a lineage who cannot be led to the supreme being are placed on their respective paths, in terms of their own nature, it is said that the inferior and intermediate beings are spoken of for the purpose of being led to the supreme being. Sharawa said, 'Here, the path of the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas is not spoken of, but rather the key instruction for gradually leading to the Mahayana.' Some say that the inferior and intermediate beings are to be discarded or abandoned by the great. Why is that? Because the small one, even if he has gained something before, is repeatedly deceived. The intermediate is said to be contradictory to the great being. It is said that there is such a saying, but Jowo's intention is not like that. So, if it is not like that, then how should it be? The inferior and intermediate beings are like the branches or roots of the supreme. The lower path is said to be a branch of the upper. Relying on this, Khenpo Paldenpa sometimes speaks of a key instruction called 'the cycle of the three beings.' What is that? The realization of the inferior being is to fear the three lower realms and abandon the causes of non-virtue, which is indispensable as a basis for the upper two, so it is not to be abandoned. So, is there no difference at all? If one thinks that just that is enough, that thought is to be abandoned. The intermediate and the great are not completely contradictory either, because the intermediate, at that time, realizes that all of samsara is suffering, which is itself a part of the great. Without that, the mind of the great cannot be generated. Therefore, know that the mind of the great also arises relying on that. Because samsara has no beginning and no end, I myself also wander in samsara. Therefore, there is not a single being who has not been one's own mother. Because they have been mothers, they have bestowed kindness on each other, and those very loving old mothers, it would be good if they had happiness, but they have no happiness, and instead suffer in the same place of suffering as oneself. Because one understands the faults of samsara, one can also understand the object of compassion. If one does not know the realization of the intermediate, but instead sees one's own samsara as a place of happiness and wants to liberate beings, what is that if not an enemy?' It is said that Subhuti said this. Therefore, there is no reason to generate compassion for beings who are dwelling in a place of happiness. If beings do not have the recognition of a mother, they will not have the mind that cannot bear their suffering.
