He said that this matter was done by the two of us. After relying on him, one should be very respectful to him. Our Geshe Tonpa said: If others speak of the faults of one's own guru, one should put one's palms together and say that this is my guru, please do not speak, and pray in this way. If the prayer is not heard, then cover one's ears and not listen. He said that if one hears, one will go to hell. Jowo Wangchuk Shyönnu made something like a left-handed bond, and as a result, it was spread in all directions. Later, he reported to Geshe Tonpa, saying, "You must never tell me such a thing. If I hear such a thing, I will not stay here, I will go to Dokham. If I go after hearing such a thing, it is because I heard the faults of Jowo Chenpo, and if I hear it, I will go to hell, so I will not go." He said that he was so respectful to Jowo Chenpo. He said, "One must know to do that, and be grateful for what has been done. If one has this, relying on this, from loving-kindness and compassion to the mind of enlightenment, it will also become very good, because it is a good rebirth, and it is also the root of the Mahayana Dharma. The vows of Tantra, and all the rules of conduct for dwelling and abiding in the Vinaya of the Holy Dharma, are also all included here." Second, there is also the need for a reliable source. Sharawa himself said: "Tibet is not a source of Dharma either. China also likes to create and add things on its own, and it has been translated twice in a distorted way, so the source is not reliable. The source of Dharma is India. Because the Indian language is written at the head of the book, this Dharma came from there, so it is for the sake of a reliable source. In the past, when the rules were not damaged, there was nothing in the Tibetan original. The Chinese original is called Chinese. Even if it is translated from India, even if the revision of new terms has not been completed, and no proofreading has been done, the Indian language, proofreading, and the king's seal are all missing. After everything has been determined, the Indian language is written at the head of the book. The proofreading and the king's seal are also stamped at the end of the book. In the middle, the Dharma declined. Because there was no king's law, all the Tibetan originals were added with Indian language. All the Chinese originals thought that the lineage had been cut off, so they were also added, so now everything is mixed together. That's all for this matter.

In practice, also, in the past, worldly marriages all emphasized having a "pure lineage," considering it very important. So, if we are to attain liberation and achieve omniscience, if there is no pure lineage, going to someone who doesn't understand anything to learn will be useless. Having a pure lineage is very important. As Potowa said: First, when taking the vows of refuge, one must have a master who has already attained Buddhahood. If not, it won't work. If we consider it from the perspective of individual liberation vows, when taking the vows of a layperson, one must have faith that the master is great in terms of activities and results. For the preceptor and instructor for ordination and full ordination, it is said in the Vinaya itself: Those who possess morality, know the Vinaya rituals, are compassionate to the sick, have pure retinues, are diligent in benefiting others with Dharma and material things, and admonish at the right time—these are praised as lamas. As it is said, a fully ordained monk must have been ordained for more than ten years and possess any one of the twenty-one qualities of the five groups. The Acharya must also possess the five groups. The so-called compassionate Sangha refers to those who do not covet material things and possess the Dharma of fulfillment. The Acharya who teaches reading should also be selected from the treatises on logic. If the vows of the teacher and student are broken and they are far from self-cultivation, listening will not bring actual benefits but only faults. Therefore, one should rely on elderly masters who are proficient in scriptures, abide in self-cultivation, and teach others with compassion. If someone asks, "It is not enough to adorn oneself only with practice; if one wants to receive more Dharma connections of the Great Vehicle, what should one do?" The answer is: "One must have great respect. Not associating with him is the key. If you associate with him, there is a risk of losing faith in his (the master's) actions." When one does not understand, one should have faith and respect for all the Dharma connections one has received. But our Kadampa people say, "Throw the ten 'sounds' into the water and say nothing." Even if one has received Dharma connections in the past but has not adorned oneself with practice, one must have great respect, even if one has only received a single syllable of Dharma connection. Thus it is said. Taking the vows of aspiration and engagement of a Bodhisattva is even more excellent than all of the above.
