Moreover, (the sutra says) the lands are not my burden, but ingratitude is my heavy burden. Thus it is said, even if the oceans and so on are imposed as burdens, in this very life one can be freed from those burdens. Even if one is not freed in this life, in the next life one will never remain under those burdens. The burden of not knowing gratitude has become the ripening of karma, so until that karma is exhausted, even if one transmigrates, one cannot be freed from that burden. Therefore, we now, starting from the parents who show the world and the guiding teacher who leads from underground, if we are not ungrateful to anyone who has been kind to us, we will not have any merit. At first, the third syllable of Ya ta na mo, "This is ka," even if taught repeatedly, one who does not understand, later even to determine whether the Buddha has wisdom, the increase of wisdom, this is the kindness of the monastic teacher. We first went to the teacher who distinguishes ka kha ga, and listened to any Dharma, and established a deep connection with it. After that, without distinguishing between high and low, without any reverence, even calling them by their names casually, being criticized by Tibetans, in this way, in the future, one will never encounter a Dharma speaker, and will only fall into boundless darkness. In particular, the three of secret mantra empowerment, explaining tantras, and giving instructions are said to be inseparable from the Buddha. We, who are completely ignorant of the Dharma, as soon as we enter the path of forced instruction, enter the great mandala. After that, if one is not ungrateful to the lama who performs such actions, even if one hears it in this life, one will not understand, and even if one practices, there will be no result. In the future, it is impossible to receive help from the Dharma, and one will fall into the Vajra Hell. If one does not encounter the Dharma, even if one is born as a human, one will not have any merit or happiness. Both new and old secret mantras consider the new instructions to be more superior, but more of the old school attain siddhis. This is also the benefit of respecting the lama. Therefore, from now on, in order not to be abandoned by one's own teacher and the Dharma, one should reduce Dharma connections like Geshe Tonpa, and give great reverence to those with whom one has established Dharma connections. Purify the obscurations created by past disrespect. If that teacher is still alive, confess to him. If that teacher is no longer alive, confess to his lineage and

Even the lineage of blood relations should be studied. If those are not available, then think of the later lama as being the same as that one, and study with him. Perform the death anniversary offering. If you do it that way, then you will also meet a virtuous spiritual friend. In the future, he will not abandon you, and by relying on him, all qualities will arise. Geshe Tonpa's teachers were the abbot of Kham, Setzun Wangchuk Zhonnu, and Kagton Chenpo of Lato, these two were Tibetans. The pandita named "Word Thorn," who was not very famous, and Jowo, these two were Indians, making a total of four. He showed faith and respect to all four of them as if they were Buddhas. He also referred to the son of Yungde, who first taught him the alphabet, as Jowo Chokyong, and was always close to him. A person named Druptok Gyalbu came to Geshe Tonpa seeking Dharma. Geshe said, "Go and ask the previous lama and then come." He said, "There is no one in U-Tsang." Geshe said, "Then there is in Kham, he will come, go and ask him and then come." He said, "There is no one." Geshe said, "Then you are fortunate, he will not come, isn't there a teacher who taught you the alphabet? Go and ask him and then come." As Geshe said, if you are looking for another later teacher on top of the previous teacher, you must also inform the previous teacher, this is the definite meaning, this is known from the "Mother Meaning Explanation." In the Sutra Requested by Drakshulchen, it says: 'If one hears a single verse that teaches the six perfections from someone, then for as many eons as there are letters in that verse, even if one serves and honors him with all the resources of worldly happiness, one cannot repay his kindness.' Why is that? Because that is a deceptive dharma, but the former, no matter what the teacher's intention is, that which is heard will one day become the cause for realizing the realm of Dharma, because it is a cause that is of the same kind as the realm of Dharma.' All of this is the definite meaning. If even the Dharma taught in the scriptures is like that, what need is there to mention the kindness of the lama who guides one in practice? Because of this, when Putowa was staying in Koruna, he said to Khampa Zidu, who was going to Kham: 'There is no place to rely on here in U-Tsang, go to Kham and rely on Tonpa Wangchukbar. If he allows, also ask for the stages. We others are external practitioners, the real disciple of Geshe Tonpa is him.' Geshe himself was also a teacher and disciple of secret mantra.
