Furthermore, while a short lifespan is certainly undesirable, a long lifespan can also be exceedingly long. As stated in the Abhidharmakosha, "Five hundred days and nights of the month." This means that if one human month is taken as a day and night, one can live to be five hundred years old. Calculating this in human years, the Suhrllekha states, "Beings bound by the strong noose of karma from evil deeds, who continuously endure suffering without interruption, some do not die even after five thousand or ten thousand years." Therefore, in Gyal Lhakhang (place name), there was a person named Tsa Dor Tso who was very attached to Gyalwa (place name). Putowa (person name) said to him, "You should not be too attached to this Gyal Lhakhang (place name). If you are born as a preta due to the ripening of attachment, then the lifespan will be too long, and if you are born here after that, you will not even know where this Gyal Lhakhang (place name) is." He thought about it for a moment and was not happy. Narthangpa Droton (person name) said, "Things themselves change in this way, but we do not understand it at all." Thinking in this way, he believed in the suffering of pretas, such as hunger and thirst. If he believed that this was caused by stinginess, he would even be able to cut off his own flesh to give as charity, let alone external objects. Sharawa (person name) said this. Then, for some animals, is there even more suffering in hell itself than this? He said many similar things, and all of these must be carefully contemplated. In general, it is said that there are thirty-four billion different kinds of animals. If all of these are summarized, they can be divided into those that live in the main body and those that are scattered. It is said that the animals that live in the main body are as numerous as the yeast in all the darkness between the outer ocean and the continents. It is said that the scattered animals exist in the desire realm and in these places where they interact with humans. If we consider this from the perspective of general suffering, Acharya Nagarjuna said, "Even in the place of birth of animals, there are various sufferings such as killing, binding, and beating. For those who have abandoned virtue, it is extremely unbearable to devour one another. Some die for the sake of pearls, wool, bones, blood, meat, and leather."

Or, being foolish and ignorant, their knowledge is poor and dull, and they are constantly under the pressure of a great mountain. All heat and cold are similar to those of hell. All hunger and thirst are similar to those of pretas. In particular, sentient beings dwelling in suffering, all those dwelling in the depths of the ocean are oppressed by the weight of the water, and all those dwelling above experience suffering similar to the hot hells when the sun shines too intensely. When there is no sun and the wind blows too strongly, they experience suffering similar to the cold hells. All those dwelling in the darkness between continents cannot see their own limbs even when they stretch and contract them. When they scratch with their hands, they grab their own flesh, scratching and eating it. The big ones eat the small ones, and the small ones scratch and eat the big ones. The suffering is immeasurable. All nagas also suffer from the harm of garudas, and those without jewels suffer the pain of rain of gravel falling seven times a day. Scattered birds, mice, and wild animals also suffer from the harm of garudas, and they experience the fear of all others appearing as enemies, except for those of their own kind. Those who associate with humans are, as it is said, "Involuntarily beaten by others with sticks, whipped and hooked with iron hooks, and then used." As it is said, they are forced to work even when tired, and they are forced to break down involuntarily. All food and drink depend on humans, so they have no autonomy. All beatings and scoldings are done as if they were dealing with inanimate objects. The suffering inflicted by humans, and the suffering of their own internal harm, are immeasurable. No matter where they are born among the animal species, it is only suffering. Regarding their lifespan, the longest-lived animals live for a kalpa. Like the dragon kings, their lifespan can reach a kalpa. Some animals, before their lifespan is exhausted, have to take this body three times a day, and they should remember this. Just like the worms on the back of an old horse, as soon as they are born, they are eaten by crows and die. Then worms are born again on that back. They are also taken out and eaten by crows, and after dying, they are born again on that back. As it is said, their lifespan is extremely short. In between, they can live for years, months, days, or whatever is appropriate, so their lifespan is not always certain. As it is said, the shortest lifespan
