‘The practice of transference is the most supreme.’ The meaning of this statement is: In a comfortable dwelling, place the image of the Yidam deity (Tibetan: ཡི་དམ་ལྷ།, English: tutelary deity), whether it is a painted or a drawn image. Arrange offerings such as flowers and whatever else is available, as well as tormas (Tibetan: གཏོར་མ།, English: offering cakes). Through samadhi (Tibetan: ཏིང་ངེ་འཛིན།, English: meditative absorption), invite the Yidam deity and all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the ten directions. Offer them the offerings and whatever tormas are available. Then, sit comfortably on your seat in the vajra posture, straighten your spine, and make the gesture of meditative equipoise with your hands. Visualize the form of the deity. Seal the nine orifices with nine letters. There is no need to hold your breath here. As before, raise the Ah (Tibetan: ཨཱཿ, Sanskrit Devanagari: आः, Sanskrit Romanization: āḥ, Literal meaning: Ah) at the navel upwards with twenty-one ‘hikkas’ (Tibetan: ཧིཀྐ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हिक्क, Sanskrit Romanization: hikkā, Literal meaning: hiccup). Then, move it up and down to the navel. This is when the experience arises. Then, visualize the Kṣyuṃ (Tibetan: ཀྵྻུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: क्ष्युं, Sanskrit Romanization: kṣyuṃ, Literal meaning: Kṣyuṃ) at the crown of the head clearly, and imagine it rushing out of the crown of the head. Then, visualize a Yaṃ (Tibetan: ཡྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: यं, Sanskrit Romanization: yaṃ, Literal meaning: Yaṃ) at each of the soles of your feet. Similarly, visualize a Yaṃ at each of the left and right shoulders and the two sexual apertures, and also visualize four Yaṃs surrounding your heart. Then, visualize a wind mandala arising from these Yaṃs, shaped like a bow, accompanied by a whooshing sound, with the king of mind, Ah (Tibetan: ཨཿ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अः, Sanskrit Romanization: aḥ, Literal meaning: Ah), firmly residing within it. Raise it very strongly with twenty-one ‘hikkas’, and imagine the Ah rushing out of the crown of the head with a loud sound, entrusting your consciousness to the heart of the Yidam deity. If this does not work, recite twenty-three, twenty-four, or twenty-five ‘hikkas’, and it is impossible not to succeed in the transference. This is stated in the Four Seats Tantra: ‘In the body, the color of the wind, the Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Literal meaning: Hūṃ) is the sixth seed, the wind at the end of the channels, the seed is drawn by the mind.’ It is also said in the Explanatory Tantra: ‘With the powerful roar of Hūṃ, drive all embodied beings.’ Having transferred in this way, the wind and mind will emerge from the Brahma aperture with a whooshing sound. In this way, one will attain Buddhahood in the bardo (Tibetan: བར་དོ།, English: intermediate state). This is stated in the Four Seats Tantra: ‘Likewise, from the bodies of the deceased, the five wisdoms will naturally arise.’ This is the instruction on the practice of transference. Bringing Sleep into Clear Light Homage to the Guru! The method for bringing sleep into clear light is: Thinking that you must meditate on clear light during sleep so that you do not dream tonight. Then, in your heart, visualize a Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Literal meaning: Hūṃ) in the center of a four-petaled lotus, and entrust your consciousness to it, and then go to sleep. Upon waking up, if you find that you have not entered the clear light of sleep, think, ‘I must meditate on the clear light of sleep.’ Then, go to sleep again, and in this way, you will recognize the clear light during sleep, and the clear light will naturally arise in a state between sleep and wakefulness. As the Lama (Tibetan: བླ་མ།, English: spiritual teacher) said: ‘Or rest in the clear light, without falling asleep.’ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
