The Teachings of Gampopa GM19: The Words of Lord Dagpo Lhaje, Called 'Oral Transmission Notes'. (Tsa) Homage to the Guru! Homage to the Kagyu lineage lamas, yidams, and vajra dakinis! To the ocean-like teachings of the lama, I, with my limited intellect, can only grasp a drop. To avoid forgetting, I write this down as a reminder. The venerable lama said: When the great Pal Naropa (Indian Mahasiddha, Naropa) asked Je Tsun (Milarepa), Lama Je Tsun said: The great Lama Naropa, with the seven-letter mantra king, recited it a hundred thousand times, thereby shaking the earth and receiving prophecies. In the east, Tailopa (Indian Mahasiddha, Naropa's guru) Previously imparted instructions concern the reality of things, the path, and the order of the arising of fruition. There are three key points: the key point of the body, the key point of the place, and the key point of the time. Now explaining the key point of the body: legs crossed like a chessboard, spine straight like the heartwood of a tree, neck bent like an iron hook, samadhi mudra pressed tightly below the navel, arms as vast as the sky. The key point of the place: generally there are many, but mainly focused on the four chakras. If one is attached to desire, one can also focus on the karma mudra. The lama is: at the place four fingers below the navel, where the three channels converge, focus awareness on the tummo (inner heat) as small as a needle tip. Or, focus awareness on the mahamudra and practice wind. The key point of time: normally focus awareness on the navel chakra, during sleep focus on the heart chakra, during dreams focus on the throat chakra, during meditative absorption focus awareness on the crown chakra. Normally, when practicing tummo, maintain the key points of the body and perform the four aspects of inhaling, filling, pressing, and shooting like an arrow. Among these, inhaling is pressing the two nostrils with breath. Filling is filling the two right and left channels. Pressing is thinking of the breath in the two right and left channels rising up at the place four fingers below the navel and pressing as much as possible. If one cannot press, one can relax a little. Then, shooting the breath like an arrow is thinking of it extending upwards from the dūti to the brahmarandhra. Or, bending like an iron hook, pressing the two channels. If heat arises, one can sunbathe. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is said to press down like pressing the ground. Press down on the air forcefully, causing it to reach the place where the three channels converge, and imagine it rising inside the bindu. Alternatively, it is said that during the upper part of the session, focus on fire, and during the lower part of the session, focus on Mahamudra. Among these, there are three types of vase breathing: superior, intermediate, and inferior. The superior type involves pressing down from below the throat, the intermediate type from below the heart, and the inferior type from below the navel. If the bindu is about to be lost, tighten the lower gate. If you want more bliss, also tighten the lower gate. If practicing air causes pain in the head and other areas, leave the area below the navel empty and then press down on the area below that. The air coming from the north, sometimes pressing down on the upper air, sometimes tightening the lower air, will result in more bliss and non-conceptuality. By practicing in this way, five signs, eight benefits, and three wisdoms, etc., will arise. Even if these arise, if certainty arises in the unmodified nature of mind, then these will not be of benefit, because it is impossible to determine where the individual analytical vipassanā-śamatha will arise. The venerable lama said: 'Like a tree trunk but not a fruit, like a quality but not realization.' After becoming certain about clear light, also practice Tummo without separating from Mahamudra, maintaining the posture of the body, placing awareness in the unmodified state, and then practicing air. In the Tummo oral instructions, it says: 'Write down reminders with the thought of benefiting others, and ask the lama and dakinis for forgiveness. May all the aims of beings be accomplished through these virtuous roots!' Regarding dream yoga, there are four points: Homage to the Guru! The venerable Rinpoche said: 'There are four points to dream yoga: seizing the dream, purifying the dream, blessing the dream as illusion, and meditating on suchness.' Among these, seizing the dream means: tonight, one should recognize that one is dreaming, and one should dream wondrous dreams, such as seeing the face of a Yidam, or seeing the pure land of a Buddha, or going to the Thirty-Three Heavens, or seeing a wisdom dakini adorned with the five bone ornaments, etc. One should generate a strong intention, and then visualize an Oṃ in the center of a four-petaled lotus at the throat, and focus awareness on it without distraction, and then fall asleep. Alternatively, focus awareness on a bindu at the brow and then fall asleep. Upon waking up, think: 'Just now, I still did not recognize that I was dreaming in the dream. This time, I must recognize it.' and then fall asleep. During the day, while meditating, also think that one is meditating in a dream, and when the eyes see forms, etc., think that all these appearances are dreams. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
