The basis of liberation and the basis of delusion both arise. First, the seal of the youthful vase body cracks open. From the unchanging basis, essence dawns without ceasing, and from uncertain compassion, ignorance arises spontaneously. For example, just as clouds in the sky are not truly there but arise suddenly, similarly, ignorance is not originally present in the basis. Ignorance arises when compassion dawns, and thus the state of spontaneous perfection of the basis is formed. It abides in a great uncertain appearance. It possesses eight modes of manifestation, known as the precious gau state, where the understanding of desirable qualities does not cease. Abiding in the great accomplishment of non-accomplishment, the understanding of appearing like compassion does not cease. Because light dawns, the understanding of appearance does not cease. The enjoyment of appearing like wisdom does not cease. The essence of appearing like the body does not cease. The view of appearing like non-duality does not cease. The means of appearing like the end of liberation does not cease. The entrance of pure wisdom is perfected. Impure compassion does not cease. It is like a precious jewel of desirable qualities. Thus it is said. Because the appearances of samsara and nirvana dawn simultaneously, the mind, not knowing its own clarity and nature, becomes deluded. This is ignorance, where those who do not understand and are deluded are purified. As wisdom increases, the basis ripens into the fruit. Realizing that the essence is primordially enlightened, it is again called enlightenment. As self-appearance dissolves into primordial purity, the teacher who is enlightened before all at the beginning of the basis is called Samantabhadra. In his heart, it says: Thus, at the beginning and end of samsara and nirvana, the Buddha is not deluded. Therefore, by the power of the one who transcends the basis, self-appearance is known to be without inherent existence. The discriminating mind of realization does not stray outward. Movement is self-determined. Thus it is said. Glorious Samantabhadra has three self-arisen dharmas. The mother is the mandala of dharmata, and the son is the self-arisen wisdom that dawns. The instructions that do not come from scripture dawn spontaneously, and one becomes enlightened without a lama who teaches the scriptures. Wisdom that does not arise from the mind is known by oneself, and one becomes enlightened. The fruit that does not arise from the cause is found by oneself, and one becomes enlightened. Therefore, enlightenment does not depend on the mind, does not rely on practicing the path, and does not place the fruit in the future. Thus it is said. In the tantra where wisdom is equal to space, it says: The Buddha who does not arise from the mind.

The self-arisen wisdom is the Dharmakaya, the definitive meaning of being a Buddha. It is the supreme path for all yogis, the supreme wisdom of unborn knowledge. Likewise, although samsara and nirvana are one in essence, due to the difference between awareness and unawareness, awareness leads to the great bliss of Buddhahood, while unawareness causes sentient beings to experience various sufferings. Now, one must turn away from samsara, abandon suffering, and seek happiness. That is: Small, medium, and supreme minds are said by the Victorious Ones to arise from ignorance. From this root ignorance of the mind, the mind and mental factors generate all the causes of samsara. As it is said in the Secret Tantra of the Precious Introduction to the Buddha: O Secret Lord, all phenomena that arise from the mind and mental factors are samsara. Furthermore, this so-called mind, which remembers nine things while forgetting one, accumulates all the actions of the world, good and evil, enemies and friends, meaningful and meaningless, and unpredicted deeds. As it is said in the Two Signs: The mind and mental factors, the three realms, are conceptualizations with imputed aspects. And in the Sutra: O sons of the Victorious Ones, the three realms are mind only. Thus it is. The mind is like a painter; all the realms of the world are painted by the mind. Similarly, this mind, which moves nine ways while not moving, accumulates all the habitual tendencies of samsara with outflows, such as the aggregates of consciousness and the fifty-one mental factors, thereby obscuring self-awareness. Therefore, one must recognize the flaws in its characteristics, as it is necessary for becoming a Buddha. If the mind is purified, one becomes a Buddha. In the Overflowing Wisdom, it is said: The mind is the cause of the arising of Buddhas, and if one realizes the mind, one is a Buddha. Therefore, one should cultivate the understanding that one should not seek a Buddha elsewhere. And in the Sutra: There is no mind in the mind; the nature of the mind is luminosity. Furthermore, the mind obscures wisdom with adventitious stains, just as rust obscures a mirror, or clouds obscure the sky. Therefore, one must remove the adventitious stains of the mind. And in the scripture it says: All sentient beings are Buddhas, But are obscured by adventitious stains. Removing those stains is Buddhahood itself. Thus it is. Third, the actual practice of Cutting Through Resistance has three aspects: examining the place of arising, the place of dwelling, and the place of going.
