So, are the container and its contents one or two? If you think they are one, does sleep interrupt them or not? If sleep interrupts them, then it is not the same as the daytime appearance. If it does not interrupt them, then they are not two. Or are the appearances of today's daytime and last night's dream upside down? Are they inside out? You said, is there no way to make these two uncertainly belong to the same side? And my lama, etc. He will point it out. And my lama. So, where should we conclude? What ground should we hold? Please, supreme lama, show us. When asked like this, the lama said: In all the beginningless and endless lifetimes, there has never actually been birth, only the appearance of birth. There has never actually been death, only the appearance of death, like the dream state changing and then the daytime appearance arising, or the daytime appearance changing and then the dream state arising, other than that, Actually, birth and death are not established from their own side. Similarly, the object of the eye is form, the object of the ear is sound, the object of the nose is smell, the object of the tongue is taste, the object of the body is touch, the object of the mind is the appearance of the various realms of phenomena like an ocean, all those appearances are actually non-existent, but all those seeing, hearing, feeling, tasting, touching, are just self-appearing to oneself, other than that, there is not even a hair's breadth of truly established things. You said, if you think those are other things, seen by the eyes, truly held by the hands, appearing in the gates of the senses, existing in other self-continuums, seeing good forms produces good concepts, seeing bad forms produces bad concepts, seeing intermediate forms produces neutral concepts. Similarly, hearing good sounds produces good concepts, hearing bad sounds produces bad concepts, hearing intermediate sounds produces neutral concepts. Smelling good smells... smelling bad smells... smelling intermediate smells produces neutral concepts. Tasting good tastes... tasting bad tastes... tasting intermediate tastes produces neutral concepts. Feeling good touches... feeling bad touches... feeling intermediate touches produces neutral concepts, if you think these concepts are seen by the eyes, truly held by the hands, appearing in the gates of the senses, then, during the dream last night, your eyes saw good forms, such as the bodies of gods, humans, and Sugatas, etc., and also saw bad forms, such as unpleasant forms, etc., but during the daytime today, these eyes did not see even one form.

have not experienced. Similarly, this ear has heard pleasant sounds such as the sounds of the pipa and flute, and unpleasant sounds such as the braying of donkeys and the howling of dogs. However, today, during the daytime, this ear has not heard a single sound. This nose has smelled pleasant odors such as musk, camphor, saffron, and unpleasant odors such as horse carcasses and rotting dog carcasses. However, today, during the daytime, this nose has not smelled a single odor. This tongue has tasted sweet flavors such as brown sugar, rock candy, honey, and unpleasant flavors such as bitter and sour tastes. However, today, during the daytime, this tongue has not tasted a single flavor. This body has touched soft textures such as silk and cotton fabrics, and rough textures. ༄༅། །etc. However, today, during the daytime, this body has not touched a single texture. Such appearances have never been truly established from the moment they appear. Therefore, the similarity between these two (dream and daytime appearances) can also illustrate this point, (the Buddha) said. Samsara, etc., should be understood. Samsara has never moved from one place to another since beginningless time. The reason for not staying elsewhere is shown by the appearance of dreams. If you think about the inconsistency of truth and falsehood between dreams and daytime appearances, then what you dreamed tonight will not be dreamed again tomorrow. If you think that what exists today will also exist tomorrow, then who did you play with from the time you were ten years old? What did you say? What did you eat? Where are the stored possessions? Who did you play with in your dreams from the time you were ten years old? What did you say? What did you eat? Where were the stored possessions at that time? If it exists, there should be something that can be seen with the eyes, grasped with the hands, and manifested in the senses, but that does not exist. T11621 - 109 All of those have become places of forgetting that cannot be recalled. In the place of memory, truth and falsehood, existence and non-existence are the same. The appearance of dreams arises on the Alaya-consciousness, and the appearance of daytime arises on the Alaya-mind. Therefore, these two have different degrees of attachment due to the difference between looking outward and looking inward.
