Hearing is also the source of fame. Extensive hearing is like an ocean, proclaimed in various ways, and even bodhisattvas abiding on the third ground would cross worlds filled with fire to hear the Dharma for the sake of a single verse. Wealth is complete prosperity. Extensive hearing does not make one lack the wealth of the wise, who possess wisdom, because others will respectfully make offerings. As it was said earlier, due to the requests of the patrons, wealth will become vast. Or, wealth is the prosperity that transcends the world. As it is said: In the inconceivable secrets of the Tathagatas, the great treasures of the world will be destroyed by kings, thieves, fire, and water. The great treasures of the Tathagatas will not be exhausted even after many eons. The bodhisattva who strives for the benefit of sentient beings is, wherever there is a mind of solitude that is properly applied, and constant mindfulness is the cause of immortality, and complete non-attachment is the cause of all happiness. It is like this. When meeting with virtuous people, the most excellent gift is that the noble ones obtain realization from hearing, therefore they pursue non-inverted hearing and explain it to others, not gifts such as wealth. Nyarogha, with the meaning of obtaining nectar, asked Banga with a gift and gave examples, so that the Dharma is without dust and without defilement to the Dharma eye. In the assembly, the wise will be happy, like the poor Deva, because he has wealth such as hearing, so he is praised by the retinue of the Tathagatas. All the assemblies of sentient beings, like King Clear Light, will not shrink back even in the rain of the seven determined steps. The so-called overcoming of opponents is like the light of the sun, just as other lights are overwhelmed by the light of the sun, so too, other debaters are subdued by extensive hearing. As it is said: On the battlefield, look at the brave warrior; at the time of eating and drinking, look at the relatives; for unbearable poison, look at the secret mantra; to understand the meaning, look at the wise. That is to say, when there is a dispute over anything

Subduing others is the wisdom of much learning, like the master Āryadeva subduing the heretical teacher Aśvaghoṣa. It dispels the fame and arrogance of competitors. It is said: Just as Sarvakāla Kumāra Bodhisattva, whose mind was corrupted by the stain of jealousy, subdued the five ministers who were in accordance with the Dharma. Even before the ignorant, it proclaims the virtues of those who speak the Dharma with much learning as extremely superior, and it speaks pleasantly. "Well spoken, O World-Honored One, it is wonderful!" Such words of special praise are seen in many sutras. The virtue of generating faith in others is: It clearly shows the meanings of the reasons, and the Agamas of the scriptures are in accordance with various meanings. By reasoning, it is possible to ascertain the hidden impermanence and so on. Some hidden things can also be ascertained through the Agamas, that is, the words of the scriptures and the instructions, that is, the words of the lineage of the gurus, or the Agamas of the scriptures can be combined, which is a synonym for the words of the Buddha. Because it is intimate and gentle, it is pleasing to the mind, like spreading a fresh garland of flowers. It is said: Much learning makes the body and mind capable and generates joy, like a fresh garland of flowers. Much learning gives rise to extreme gentleness, as it is said in other texts: "As one hears the Dharma, so one understands the meaning of each thing, and from that comes great joy, and from that comes ease of mind, and extreme gentleness arises, and with ease and ease of mind one enters into samadhi, and even to the liberation of the mind." This is the great fruit of hearing. It gives rise to meekness and very clear confidence. It is said: Hearing immediately enables one to teach the Dharma to others with the fearlessness of wisdom, or to subdue others in accordance with the Dharma, and in this way arrogance and pride do not arise, so it is meek. Great fame comes from teaching the Dharma or subduing those who speak differently, and this also comes from much learning. It is said that by the power of extreme gentleness, the tongue becomes eloquent. The cause of distinction is that eloquence is the cause of distinction, which is a synonym for this. Meaning clear
