Until my needs and the attainment of Nirvana are also needs. Because in the five realms of existence, karma and afflictions are the two causes, from the time of projecting rebirth and the time of the manifested accomplishment of the projected rebirth, those who have not abandoned karma and afflictions cause and increase rebirth. Therefore, as long as sentient beings are afflicted, they will not be liberated from samsara. There is no other way to abandon afflictions except through the proper discernment of the Dharma. Because all afflictions reside in ignorance, the wisdom of understanding the Dharma and light and darkness are contradictory in nature and cannot coexist. Because the proper discernment of the Dharma causes the abandonment of afflictions, and the abandonment of afflictions does not accumulate the karma of rebirth, and even if accumulated, it loses the ability to produce results due to the lack of a common cause. In this way, abandoning afflictions prevents the connection to rebirth in this life, thereby attaining liberation. If it is said that the need is the same as that of the treatises such as the Commentary, then is there no need to write more than those treatises? Because seeing that the treatises such as the Commentary have faults such as being verbose, concise, and confusing, in order to fully satisfy the needs of many, widely knowledgeable, and virtuous-minded people, and to benefit them, I have written the Abhidharma-kosa, which is neither verbose, concise, nor confusing, and clearly explains the meaning of words, and is very close to the Abhidharma. Therefore, writing this treatise is not unnecessary. The so-called "one who desires to compose a treatise" is to compose a treatise in order to tame disciples. Taming is to place disciples in the cause of good rebirth and liberation, and to completely abandon the fear and cause of bad rebirths. Or, composing a treatise is to tame afflictions and save them from the fear of bad rebirths. Taming afflictions means abandoning afflictions, and those who abandon afflictions and realize the truth, because they have attained the non-discriminating cessation, can prevent the birth of bad rebirths, and can save them from the fear of bad rebirths, both of which are the path.

Therefore, only the path is the treatise, that is, the nature of the path is considered the treatise. The collection of names, etc., is to enable the disciples to obtain everything with characteristics, with distinctions, with fruits, and with opposing factors. Or, here, for the scriptures, it is also borrowed, grasping the general situation, therefore, considering this verse itself as the treatise, the so-called collection of names, etc., refers to wanting to enter and settle. Also, there are two types of treatises, namely the Dharma to be spoken, that is, the Abhidharma, and the speaker. As it is said: Most of this Abhidharma that I have spoken is the established saying of the Kashmir Sarvastivada school. Like this. The treatise that can be spoken is also the nature of verses. Defiled and undefiled Dharmas. and so on. In this regard, if it contradicts the Dharma to be spoken, that is, the Abhidharma, then wanting to do is wanting to declare and wanting to separately explain, which are synonyms. Due to the meaning, the treatises are shown as two types. Also, when associated with the treatise of verses, wanting to do is wanting to enter and wanting to write, which are synonyms. One's own teacher, that is, grasping the totality of the teacher, saying the word teacher and one's own, is because there are also other teachers, so one's own teacher is said. Therefore, this will say that the Buddha is Bhagavan, together is because of the promise to take refuge in one's own teacher, because it is combined with the promise, so it is to follow the Dharma. Then, didn't the teacher initially strive to declare the Buddha's supreme wisdom and perfect abandonment and realization, thereby showing dwelling in it? No, one can become a teacher from dwelling in his teachings, merely promising is not enough. Others, merits can only arise from each one's own teacher, so especially saying one's own is not meaningless. Or, all sentient beings are regarded as objects of disciples from the time of generating Bodhicitta, I will show them the fruit of the path, therefore, for this meaning, entering into Samsara and fully attaining Buddhahood, so this is think
