It depends only on the differences. It is not that there are no differences in everything. Therefore, the categories arising from it cannot be classified into one category. What is meant by 'gathering'? There are five dharmas that gather the Vinaya: the fault of nature, the establishment, the prohibition, the permission, and the accomplishment. What is meant by 'following'? There are five dharmas that follow the Vinaya: dwelling, place, support, enjoyment, and action. What is meant by 'discordant'? There are five dharmas that are discordant with the discipline of a bhikshu who is diligent in the study of the Vinaya: interruption, modification according to the holy Dharma, evil friends, foolishness and abandonment of afflictions, and small accumulation of past merits. What is meant by 'concordant'? There are five dharmas that are concordant with the discipline of a bhikshu who is diligent in the study of the Vinaya: the opposite of the five discordant dharmas. What is meant by 'near peace'? There are five dharmas that lead to near peace, taming, and pacification for a bhikshu who is diligent in the study of the Vinaya: certainty and happiness in association, abandonment, the limbs of abandonment, reverence and service, and the near pacification of disputes. What is meant by 'complete knowledge'? A bhikshu who is diligent in the study of the Vinaya should completely know: the offenses to be completely known, the individuals to be completely known, the objects to be completely known, and the harms to be completely known. What is meant by 'faith and increase'? There are five dharmas that cause those who do not have faith in the discipline of a bhikshu who is diligent in the study of the Vinaya to develop faith, and those who have faith to increase: complete morality, complete view, complete rituals, complete livelihood, and no mutual strife. What is meant by 'strength'? There are five strengths that make the proper application of a bhikshu who is diligent in the study of the Vinaya complete in all aspects: the strength of application, the strength of intention, the strength of realization, the strength of knowledge, and the strength of abiding. Thus, the teaching of the ten meanings of the mother of the Vinaya is the teaching of the nature of the Vinaya.

It is said that it should be understood as "summarizing the time of liberation briefly." In the "Seven Aspects of Manjushri," the so-called "teaching of the method of proper acceptance" refers to first taking refuge in the Three Jewels, giving the upasaka vows, and then performing four karmas: the invitation karma, the invitation and second karma, the invitation and fourth karma, and the karma of proclaiming the three karmas, so that the Dharma of ordination and full ordination can be taught. The so-called "teaching of things like the place of defeat" refers to combining it with the first of the five categories of offenses. The so-called "teaching of things like the place of offenses" refers to combining it with the last four of the five categories of offenses. The so-called "teaching of the nature of offenses" refers to three types: non-afflictive offenses, afflictive offenses, and the nature of small, medium, and large offenses. Among them, non-afflictive offenses arise from two causes: ignorance and negligence. Afflictive offenses also arise from two causes: strong afflictions and disrespect. The small, medium, and large offenses should be understood from five aspects: nature, action, intention, basis, and assembly. Among them, from the aspect of nature, the nature of small, medium, and large is that parajika is a major offense, sanghavasesa is a medium offense, and other than that is a minor offense. Another classification is that parajika and sanghavasesa are major offenses, patayantika and confession are medium offenses, and duskrita is a minor offense. From the aspect of action, actions done out of ignorance and actions done out of negligence are minor offenses, actions done out of strong afflictions are medium offenses, and actions done out of disrespect are major offenses. From the aspect of intention, being bound by attachment, anger, and ignorance, doing it with a small (degree) is a minor offense, doing it with a medium (degree) is a medium offense, and doing it with a large (degree) is a major offense. From the aspect of the basis, being bound by hatred, similarly, if one knowingly kills a sentient being born in the animal realm, it is a minor offense because it is a patayantika; if one kills a human being who is not one's parent, it is a parajika, which is a major offense; the five heinous crimes
