From the ground, practice becomes great practice. If the faculties are superior, then focusing on the benefit of others, practice becomes great practice. If the faculties are middling, then focusing on one's own benefit, practice becomes great practice. If the faculties are inferior, then focusing on averting the obstacles of this world, practice becomes great practice. The great sovereign is like this: the root of faults is the duality of grasping and being grasped. Grasping and being grasped, focusing on conditioned dharmas, is practicing dharma, but it is not counted in the Buddha's vehicle. Hope, doubt, straying, and decision, these two, grasping and being grasped, if one does not recognize them as the root of faults, and if one does not repeatedly meet the great inner guru, then Vajrasattva did not say that one can find the Buddha by searching elsewhere. Furthermore, the indication of the imprints of great wisdom: the great guru's instructions, self-awareness dawns within oneself. If the transmission, the scriptures, the guru's instructions, and one's own awareness are in accord without error, then in whatever way the four wisdoms are taught, awareness dawns from within without hope or doubt. The essence of great, profound clarity, when one remembers it effortlessly without seeking the extraordinary, one leaves it uncorrected, unadulterated, and naturally as it is. One should also understand the great sovereign in this way. For example, a skilled archer, even if his quiver is full of arrows, aims only at the tip of the arrow. Similarly, for all the phenomena of appearance and existence, even if delusion is cut off at its root and many doors of the vehicle are taught, for the true meaning, view and meditation are contained within the four fruits. The four themselves are also contained within one great meaning. One should also understand it in this way. The Dharmakaya, which has color and form, if one remembers it effortlessly without seeking the extraordinary, that is view. Remaining in that uncorrected state is meditation. Profound clarity without distraction is action. The essence of great, profound clarity, the Buddhas practice without artifice, sentient beings abide naturally. That which transcends the minds of sentient beings, like the smell of garlic, one's own awareness, which is inherently present, without seeking the great fruit, is spontaneously accomplished. Meeting the expanse without searching. Accomplishing the great meaning without practice. Occupying the great earth without going. If it is permanent, it abides permanently, the Dharmakaya is permanent. If it is cut off, it abides cut off, conceptual thought is cut off. If it is separated, it abides separated, it is separated from the mind.
