Therefore, it should also be explained here. In both cases, it is unreasonable to say "unreasonable" because, if the proponent clings to having stated both (reasons), or if in that meaning. (Then) the proof itself and the meaning of the example, if independent, are meaningless. It means that in order to truly establish what is to be established, one should strive. What is to be established should be described as the nature of what can be established. For those, to say "meaningless" is meaningless, meaning that what is to be established, the nature of what can be established, is impossible. This meaning is clarified by explanation, the proof itself is impossible, and the meaning of the example is not either. The reason is: whatever can be established itself is impossible, because it lacks the ability to establish. What is the meaning of the example? Just as others want to truly follow what is to be established, that is impossible, that is his idea. As previously stated, for example, the consistency of what is said and the Dharma, only those said, not both what is to be established and what can be established are said, it is just like that. Therefore, it is said that the proof itself is non-existent. Without an example, it is also, only what is to be established with reason, or when measuring its difference, the examples will be endless. Returning from the dissimilar side as well. Chapter Four. Said for the purpose of giving (help) when arguing with others, it has been said that there are two kinds of valid cognition, meaning that, as previously vowed, direct perception and inference, there are only two kinds of valid cognition, those two have been said. Also from saying the merits of one's own valid cognition and refuting the valid cognition of others. Some say "what arises from sound is also", some, referring to the Samkhya school and so on. To generate a close understanding of something that is not close from sound is what arises from sound. Not only the understanding of meaning and so on, this is the meaning of the word "also". How is it said that what arises from sound is not another valid cognition? Like that and so on. That, is implied to be connected to sound. Created and so on.

The term "as it is" means that just as signs such as infancy possess three characteristics and thereby clearly express their meaning, so too does sound. This example fully clarifies the permanence of sound, thus clearly illustrating that inference arises from sound. The phrase "by excluding others" signifies that it is by being contrary to other meanings, not by being of the nature of proving as in seeing something. The phrase "sound is thoroughly joined to what place" means that the place where something is expressed for the purpose of understanding a meaning is its object, because it is what is to be understood, like a sign's sign. The phrase "by which of its branches" means that the branches of the meaning to be expressed and the knowable things themselves are many. All of these, and the fact that they do not arise without the sound of wood and so forth, are not necessarily related. Just as things related to something, such as what is made, clarify by distinguishing other meanings. Because expression is known as the nature of sound, it is said that the example and the exemplified should not become dissimilar, thus clarifying it. How will it be expressed? Whatever has the characteristic of inference is not different from it, just as knowing fire from smoke. What arises from sound is also like that, which contradicts pervasiveness. If it is said, "It expresses by excluding others," what is the purpose of this? To what extent? If it is understood that what arises from sound is not different from inference only by saying "It expresses like what is made, etc.," is there a need? The sign of what is made, etc., understands its own meaning by distinguishing other meanings, which has already been proven. Therefore, if the phrase "by excluding others" is not said, then the understanding of other logicians would become this: the sign of what is made, etc., understands its own meaning by being contrary to other meanings, while sound is by way of proof. It is only because of this difference that what arises from sound is different from inference. Therefore, this was said to clarify that. Again, the doubt about this will be dispelled by other occasions, so let it be left for now. How are the three modes of sound?

It is so. Why doesn't it change? Because the Dharma is not a race. Therefore, the meaning of sound should not be Dharma, because it needs to be understood, just like impermanence. In fact, sound is also not visible, because it exists in the speaker, because it only points to the speaker. Therefore, this is just another valid means of cognition ( प्रमाण ,pramāṇa,valid means of cognition), because it is the cause of understanding the meaning like a symbol. If you say so, it is said like this because the field of valid means of cognition produced by sound is not fully understood. Because it is not a valid means of cognition for external things, because it will not become an understanding of it. So what is it? It is a valid means of cognition for what you want to express. Only the third way of sound exists in it. Therefore, the person who has what he wants to express is the Dharma. What you want to express is the Dharma that needs to be proved. Sound is the Dharma of the part, because it only points to what you want to express. The one who has previously experienced what he wants to express is the similar side. The opposite of this is the dissimilar side. How can there be no three ways? So, what you want to express is not a valid means of cognition itself. So, is what you want to express a universal valid means of cognition? Or is it a special valid means of cognition of what you want to express? For the time being, it is not a universal valid means of cognition, because it cannot be named from it. If the universality of what you want to express becomes the meaning of the sound, then when you say "understand", you will not fully follow the form of distinguishing the nine letters, saying "what is this saying", because the expression of the sound alone is enough to determine the universality of what you want to express. The universal meaning of what you want to express is also not the reason why sounds enter, because the universality of what you want to express is not a factor and a valid means of cognition for anyone who seeks meaning to fully enter, because when they enter by fully determining the meaning, they will not be deceived in action. Therefore, saying that, the universality of what you want to express is not a valid means of cognition. Nor is it a particularity, because it is wrong. That is, it has the particularity of what you want to express.
