Following after it, there will be no end, therefore, sentient beings will not desire other fruits that need to be accomplished. Similarly, in the world, the fruits of satisfaction and so on are manifestly desired, and that is manifestly established only from the arising of satisfaction and complete freedom from suffering and other cognitions, because only in this way can beings be completely satisfied and cease, so it is said that from itself the desired is accomplished. That is, the ability to obtain it, which is preceded by the cognition that is its cause, is called valid cognition. And because this ability is unfamiliar, it does not understand the fruit, so it cannot be grasped with certainty, so in order to make the subsequent cognition of the fruit enter with certainty, it is first said to be valid cognition from another. Furthermore, in order to eliminate exhaustion in other ways, it is said, "The first is an unreal object," and so on. If the first initial cognition were to engage with unreal things, then at that time the subsequent cognition of the fruit would not arise, because there is no cause, and the cognition that can function is related to real things. From the cognition that grasps non-fire, to from the flowers of bitter flowers, etc., only because it is determined to be fire, it will not produce the cognition that appears as cooking and burning, etc., and even if it does, it will only think that this is fire. From where is it said? Because the characteristic of fire is only the cause of producing the fruits of cooking and burning, etc. Therefore, the reason for saying "as long as" is to make a conclusion here. However, just like the cognition that can function, is not the first cognition also produced by the reality of fire? Then, why doubt that it itself is not valid cognition, and doubt that the latter is not? Therefore, it is said, "Subsequent fruit," and so on. For the first cognition, there is a cause of confusion, like this, in the end there is no fruit of cooking, etc., and it is in harmony with the confused cognition, and unclear wisdom, and the word "etc." includes disrespect and unfamiliarity, etc. For the cognition of the fruit, because there is not the slightest cause of confusion, it is determined from itself.

Furthermore, regarding the initial consciousness, the reason for eliminating the causes of delusion through familiarity, etc., is to show that it itself is a valid cognition. The reason for mentioning "if entering through familiarity," etc., is that through the power of familiarity, for example, yogis, or for jewels and similar things, those knowledges can clearly appear, far removed from the causes of delusion. Similarly, for others, through the power of familiarity, the clear appearance itself gives rise to a clear consciousness that dispels doubts of delusion. Without interruption, when a definite consciousness with common similarity arises, thereby giving rise to a discriminating consciousness, because its object is necessarily reversed from dissimilar categories, it is said to be a valid cognition in itself. If entering through familiarity, because the conceptualization of such characteristics is seen, it is determined to be a valid cognition solely through inference, by virtue of the characteristic of the ability to obtain the object. Therefore, in all cases, it should be determined as a valid cognition from others. Some think that in some cases, it is not determined from oneself. We do not understand this, and it must be explained, from where does this certainty of the unmixed, similar characteristic come? If it is said to be from familiarity, then if that is the case, there is no cause for delusion. If through the power of familiarity, by discriminating dissimilar categories, the common, unmixed similarity is determined, then when someone experiences it and is free from the causes of delusion, if it is still said to be uncertain, then what appears for the valid cognition itself? Furthermore, what is this "similarity"? If it is said to be the nature of conceptualization, then it also exists in inverted consciousness, therefore it is an uncertain reason. If it is said to be the appearance of a red image, then it also exists in the consciousness that grasps Ashoka flowers, etc., therefore there is delusion. If it is said to be the fruit of things like flowers themselves, then it must be explained how to determine it. If you follow other signs to establish it, then it will be endless. Again, if even without following signs, it is the nature of direct perception solely through the power of familiarity.
