It abides in such a way. Whoever illuminates these is illuminated without relying on others, like a lamp. For a while, the illumination of these is not held by those who are not accompanied by mind and mental factors, because even the wife of a cowherd does not seek to infer the accomplishment of her own wisdom. This extremely speculative discernment that obtains the fruit of reason, even women and ordinary people can measure the depth of its speculation. These are not to be illuminated by others, because for other simultaneous things, illuminating for a while is of no help, so it is not without reason. For things that are not simultaneous, there is also no need to illuminate, so it is unreasonable. Therefore, the illumination of these minds and mental factors, because it is separated from other illuminators, should illuminate itself, and if it is not so, then it should not be illuminated. For mind and mental factors, there is no self-awareness of things as action and agent. However, merely the arising that is inconsistent with material things and characteristics is called self-awareness, because it contradicts action from itself, so it cannot steal self-awareness. Also, from the nature of matter, Different will arise, Which is not the nature of matter, This alone is self-awareness. Thus it is said. Just as this contradicts action in itself, the self-illumination of consciousness is unbearable, how can the self-illumination of a lamp be tolerated? I don't know! Or is the self-illumination of a lamp also unbearable? If so, this is neither worldly nor endowed with discrimination, so one should take a middle path regarding things that please the gods. Yoga is meditation and wisdom, and those who possess these are yogis. Their knowledge, which arises from meditating on the meaning established by valid cognition to the extreme, is the knowledge of yogis. Or, whether it is the object of true meaning or something else, abiding in the ultimate meditation, a consciousness will arise that appears to hold the supreme of clarity. Likewise, because the activity of the mind is disturbed by those who are intoxicated by desire and so on, when meditating, meditating

It appears clearly and completely, as if it were right in front of you. Among them, for those who have perfected the meditation on the meaning established by valid cognition, that knowledge which holds the supreme aspect of clarifying the meaning to be meditated upon, like an amalaka fruit in the palm of the hand, is what yogis are familiar with. As it is said, "By the power of meditation, it appears clearly. Among the four, appearance, change, destruction, etc., the knowledge that is not deceptive is direct perception without conceptualization." Thus it is said. By mentioning the four aspects, it eliminates the distinctions of wrongly believing that it is only seen by the sense consciousness and not by the knowledge that relies on it; and thinking that there is another aspect of the nature of the mind's direct perception that has already been explained; and thinking that self-awareness is impossible; and thinking that the knowledge of yogis is also impossible. Its object is its own characteristic, which is its own nature, that is, it is indicated by the nature that is not shared with others, that can be determined, and that can accomplish the meaning, so the object is its own characteristic. Saying what has just passed is the object of direct perception. This refutes the statement that establishes both general and specific characteristics as the objects of direct perception. This direct knowledge is the result of valid cognition, and direct perception is the cause of valid cognition, because direct perception itself is valid cognition. The action of the cause itself is the result, and its nature of realization is not different from valid cognition. If it is different, if valid cognition and realization arise simultaneously, then how can there be arising and causing for these, like the left and right horns of a cow? If they do not arise simultaneously, then it should not be what is realized. Because the opponent does not accept that there is action and agent for things at different times. Furthermore, if it is at different times, realization is another knowledge, then at that time its realization will become another knowledge, and for realizing the meaning of blue, etc., one would doubt whether one's life would be exhausted, because one would not realize it. Thus, at the time when the first knowledge arises, one does not temporarily realize this meaning, because the one who can realize it has not yet arisen. Even when the second knowledge arises, there is no realization, because it is valid cognition.
