Similar aspects, such as minute particles and space, etc., among which one similar aspect, space, is non-sentient and can be included. But minute particles are not, because minute particles are all sentient. Impermanent things like vases and happiness, one dissimilar aspect, happiness etc. can be included, but not vases etc. Similarly, when retreating from dissimilar aspects, one hesitates. Regarding the uncertain reason that pervades similar aspects, for example, regarding all phenomena of the yellow-robed ones etc., to establish "they are not omniscient," because they speak, such a reason exists in the similar side with men on the great road etc., but one hesitates regarding the dissimilar side, the omniscient ones, because the omniscient ones are beyond the senses, so one hesitates whether speaking exists or not. Similarly, regarding entering the similar side, one hesitates, while the uncertain reason that pervades the dissimilar side is, for example, regarding all phenomena of the king of cows and growth etc., to establish "they are omniscient," because they only create treatises, such a reason makes one hesitate regarding the similar side, the omniscient ones, because the omniscient ones are far beyond the senses, so one hesitates regarding only creating treatises. Regarding the dissimilar side, such as heretics and Ishvara etc., it exists among those who are not omniscient. The uncertain reason for hesitating about following and retreating is, for example, the living body has a self, because it possesses life etc., such a reason, life etc. related to the living body, entering into having a self or being without a self, or retreating, is uncertain. Therefore, this is the only following reason, because there is no example. Similarly, for the second case, it is also the only retreat, for example, this living body is not without a self, because if life etc. does not exist, it will become empty. Because there is no example, following is uncertain, and retreating is also uncertain, this is a hesitant reason. These ten are all uncertain reasons.

It is taught as appearing like the earth. What is a contradictory pseudo-reason like? For example, the subject, sound is permanent, this is the dharma to be established. Because it is produced, like space and so on, this reason exists only in dissimilar instances like a pot, and not in similar instances, like that. Similarly, the subject, sound is permanent, for this to be established, because it arises immediately, this reason does not exist in similar instances like space and so on, but exists in dissimilar instances like a pot, and does not exist in lightning and so on, like that. These two reasons are of two types: establishing the nature of the dharma in a reversed way, and establishing the nature of the subject in a reversed way. For example, the dharma, these eyes and so on, are dharmas to be established for the sake of others. Because they are accumulated, this is the reason. Like beds and cushions and so on, this is showing the similar instance. Like this, this reason establishes that eyes and so on are for the sake of others, and similarly, it also establishes that accumulation itself is for others, because it is seen that after accumulating beds and cushions and so on, Devadatta and others do things for others. Establishing the nature of the subject in a reversed way is, for example, the subject and so on is born from a cause with intelligence, for this to be established, because it has a basis, this is the reason. Like a pot and so on, this is showing the similar instance. Like this, this reason establishes that it is born from a cause with intelligence, and similarly, it also establishes that it has a basis of an agent with intelligence. Establishing the distinction of the subject in a reversed way is, for example, a Vaiśeṣika says to a Sāṃkhya, the dharma, the self has mind, for this to be established, because it is blessed by mind, this reason, how does it establish having mind when the self has no mind, similarly, this reason also establishes impermanence, because consciousness is impermanent. These five are contradictory reasons.
