Thus it is said. Some of one's own schools also hold that inferring the meaning of other things is a three-membered syllogism, the three members being the proposition, the reason, and the example. Other schools hold that it is just like the five-membered syllogism mentioned earlier, and in order to refute those views, one's own essence is explained here. All other logicians think that, for the time being, whatever combination of words has similar and dissimilar qualities, this is only water. If it is not like that, how can one understand the dissimilar by merely combining the similar? If one only combines the dissimilar, how can one understand the similar? Therefore, in order to understand both, it is necessary to state both, they think. In order to eliminate this view, it is said, "That is of two kinds," etc., and the classification is explained in detail. In order to show the power of one syllogism, the example is stated. The Vaiśeṣikas and others think that for all beings with birth, the use of special words such as relation, etc., only has different reasons, they think, and they think that the meaning is different only through the difference of words. In order to refute their tenets, the three classifications are explained by the nature of the reason. In order to eliminate the misunderstanding of these three kinds of nature of the reason, it is said, "What was said before is only the object of knowledge, the dharma to be proven, all of those are," etc. In order to show that one syllogism also has the ability to establish the three aspects of the sign, it is said, "Also with the similar," etc., and the dharma is stated closely. Some of one's own schools, if the combination and conclusion are contradictory, because it is not shown, if it depends on what is not shown, then why show the proposition? Those who think like this, for these people, these two syllogisms do not necessarily have to show the proposition, it is said, "etc.", other schools take what is not to be established as what is to be established, and through it point out the faults of the reason, in order to eliminate those, the definition of the proposition is explained. Logicians and others think that the proposition is the statement of the dharma to be proven.

Therefore, it closely indicates the definition of the subject with the inclusion of being without fault. Similarly, it also closely indicates that the definition of some of its own schools is not completely pure. As stated by Master Vasubandhu, "The meaning that one wants to analyze is the subject." The Sky-clad ones understand that being present in one part of the subject is also a reason. For example, they say, "Trees are sentient beings because they sleep at night." They intend to say that sleeping is merely the definition of closing leaves, etc. However, this is not established in all trees that are considered the subject, as it is only seen in trees such as the Tinatika tree. To distinguish this, it is mentioned that inference and ascertainment must be done in order. Ascertainment in a specific place is for the purpose of understanding the desired meaning. If it is not so, the meaning just stated will not be understood. The Vaisheshikas, etc., also acknowledge that the uncommon uncertain reason that exists only in the inferable thing is actually a reason. For example, they say, "A living body is possessed of a self because it has life, etc." To refute this, they state that it exists in the similar subject. Both of these definitions of the subject have the fault of being too broad. Because they also say that in these definitions, the reason and example are not established. Therefore, the definition of the subject is also pointed out. The Samkhyas consider that even things not accepted by the proponent and opponent should be proven. For example, they say, "The eyes, etc., are for the benefit of others." Because the benefit of others is universal, the term "own essence" is mentioned. The word "only" is to eliminate the fault of being too broad. The Samkhyas, etc., even if they do not want to be opponents, are supreme. They understand that all who want to compose treatises are only for the purpose of proving. In this way, for things that have already been done, etc., contradictions to the correct proof are also stated. Similarly, in order to prove that sound, as the subject (chos can), does not have the qualities of space, the reaso
