Now, upon seeing it, one realizes that it is milk and water. If one has not previously seen the difference between milk and the water mixed in it, one will not recognize it as milk containing water. All instances of "one with a stick," etc., are capable of distinguishing, and one can also understand that the things being distinguished are different. The way of remembering terms is the method of remembering terms, that is, through the order of remembering things sequentially. How is it? First, there is the stick, the person, and the relationship between them, and then they are combined, according to the order of combining them as "one with a stick." It is not that one does not observe the past and the future, but rather that the eye only observes the present, which refers to sensory consciousness. This means, how can it not combine them? To explain that if there is no difference between consciousness and sensory consciousness, it would lead to the fault of contradicting experience. That is why it is said "past and future" etc. If the conceptual consciousness of mind considers the object of "this is a pot, this is a pot," does sensory consciousness understand the appearing sound? "Kind" etc. refers to things, i.e., one with a stick, qualities (i.e., white cow), actions (i.e., cow walking), and names (i.e., this is a cow), showing five characteristics. Their terminology is symbols, or combining them into one, showing the combination of multiple things like "one with a stick" and "white cow." Because they are not objects, sensory consciousness understands combining multiple things into one, i.e., things are combined, and understanding is also like that, so it understands that things are combined, but it is not included in it. If it is aroused by conceptual thought, then the sensory wisdom, i.e., the aggregation of eye, appearance, and form, etc., and having the ability to appear as its own object, a cow, should also be examined in this way, because it is conceptual thought, so it is another conceptual thought, just as the conceptual thought of desire is reversed by the desire of the antidote. It is explained by "that itself is conceptual thought." The sensory wisdom can also change without relying on nearby things, because it is conceptual thought. Wanting to examine the views of the proponents of direct perception who have conceptual thoughts related to young women etc.

In short, to refute well the claims of those people, if they say, "It is not other, it is this," then, the action with connection has been spoken. To answer this, the so-called "proximate determination" does not exist now. For example, a vase in the dark cannot generate sensory consciousness, so it does not exist. Even if there is no distinction, just touching that vase will produce the thought, "This is a vase." But this is not an obvious proximate determination, because the vase in the dark, as the meaning of the sensory object, is powerless in generating sensory consciousness. Because it does not exist and has no distinction, the thought, "This is a vase," does not appear manifestly from the power of the vase's shape at all. If it is said that touching produces the consciousness of the body, and from that arises the consciousness of the obvious shape, then, if approaching through indirect means, the past object and consciousness will be processed. From this arises the present manifestation, then the present manifestation will become seeing past things. Because you also think that the object is the object of proximate determination. Past things are not the object of manifestation because they are not close. If entering a non-object, it will be very excessive. Therefore, for things that are not different from non-existent things, even if touched, the recognition of thinking "This is a vase," will not become a recognition with the manifest shape of the vase. If it is said that the shape of the vase cannot be manifested by touch, but the substance of the vase can be manifested by touch, therefore the thought of thinking "This is a vase" is the proximate determination of the meaning of the substance through touch, then, what is produced by touch is produced from the thing touched. If knowing "This is a vase," it should not be produced by the tactile organ, because when thinking like this, that consciousness will also separately manifest colors. The word "also" indicates that touch can also manifest. Therefore, shape and touch manifest in one consciousness. Furthermore, sensory consciousness recognizes things through the way of its own name. If so, the sound that is seen as a name in the conventional time, when seeing that thing, that sound should be remembered, because it is holding the meaning of "This is a vase." The sound can also be remembered through the mind's focus.
