If one cannot show that it exists in the common characteristic aspect, does not exist in the dissimilar aspect, or is definitely its result, or is naturally pervasive, like a kitchen, etc., if both cause and effect are observed simultaneously, it will be understood to follow the connection. If both cause and effect, etc., do not exist, it will be understood to be the opposite. Here, "this" refers to showing the characteristics of the reason, and also showing the meaning of following and reversing. Examples like a kitchen and others refer to showing the characteristics of the example. The characteristic of the example is that, in terms of following, like a kitchen, it is necessary to state that both what is to be proven and what proves it are definite, and in terms of connection, etc., it is only enough to definitely show that both do not exist. Through these, the faults of the example are also clarified, that is, the characteristic of the example, a similar example is that both what is to be proven and what proves it are definitely present, and on the other hand, both are definitely absent, by showing the certainty of following and reversing, the similar example is either incomplete or uncertain, or if following is incomplete, it is not an example, because it cannot serve as an example. On the other hand, if both have not become non-existent, or are uncertain, or there is no reverse, or it is not shown, it will be understood as appearing like an example, because it cannot fulfill its own meaning. Regarding its manner, "non-touching itself will change" means that the manner of the reason is related to the dharma of the subject. Not touching it is not possessing its nature. Like this, because there is no connection with the dharma that one wants to know and what is to be proven, it is meaningless. If the subject is related to what is to be proven, then because it is the nature of the reason, there is no refutation merely in the name of "example." If it does not possess those natures, then what proves has no meaning. If it is not related to the subject, and what is to be proven is also not related, because it is not related, it is impossible to understand what is desired, because it will become too extreme. If you do not show the dharma of the example's side in any way, then is it not? The answer is, yes, this is not related to the subject. What is said means that it will become something that proves differently from that reason.

This is to eliminate this error, because it is to show that if the three characteristics of the argument are lacking, it is impossible to establish it. The example is not established independently of the argument, but it is a part of understanding the characteristics of the argument, and by understanding the characteristics of the argument, one can understand what is to be proved. Otherwise, if the example cannot well show the infallible nature of the argument, concomitance and contradiction, then, what is the use of this example when what is to be proved has already been established? It is like this example is not related to the subject, like the fire in the sea of smoke seen in the open space. If it is said that the measure of proximity is the example, like for those who do not know the yak, pointing to the yak and saying "the yak is like a cow", this is understanding the image of the yak, then, in this case, it is not understanding the yak, but only the nature image of the cow. If it is said that it is understood because of the similar features such as having horns, then, merely by some similarities, one cannot determine by analogy the other nature that is different from the cow. Just like for things, no matter how much, there will always be some differences, for example, in fragments and yaks, there are also similarities such as shape and knowable. Therefore, through these similarities, one can infer the yak. If one can understand that all natures are the same through a few similarities, then it will become that all things are the same nature, because there is no difference at all. If it is said that it is so, then it is also unreasonable, because it contradicts the direct perception and so on. Merely similar points are not the parts of establishment, therefore, in order to well show through the example that the thing to be proved is clearly pervasive, that is, the relationship of the pervasive dharma with certainty, that is, the thing that depends on the pervasive, that is, the argument with that nature, therefore, the similarity that well shows the pervasiveness, this thing called the example, is only a part of the establishment, that is, it is indirectly established by means of the part of understanding the characteristics of the argument, rather than saying that the example is directly the cognition of what is to be proved.
