It is the meaning of the act. What? "Measure is non-deceptive" is called the general characteristic. And "separated from direct realization" and so on, are the characteristics of difference. Therefore, the Blessed One has shown that the state of fruition possesses characteristics. Then, how is it to realize the selflessness of phenomena? Because it is said that the realization of measurable things depends on measure. The realization of measurable things, although there are two ways through affirmation and negation, it is determined by inference. The object of direct perception should also establish the chapter of direct perception by examining the characteristics, the field of activity, and the result. If measure becomes the object of other things, then what fault would there be? First, in order to enter the Commentary on Pramana, in order to distinguish the situation in the mind: Direct perception and inference are called measure. Because the Blessed One spoke of the state of direct perception and inference, not the state of measure that others generally conceive. First, in order to enter the Commentary on Pramana, it said "Direct perception and inference." The word "also" is to indicate that there are only two kinds of measure. If it is not so, "Direct perception and inference also", it will also be suspected that it does not have the form of measure. In order to determine that there are only two, just like grammarians, in order to avoid determining the number only through direct perception and scripture, so it said "Direct perception and inference." If it is thought how these two are measure? Making one remember the general characteristic is because measure is non-deceptive. Non-deceptive is because it is not confused about things. Not being confused about things is also because it arises from things, that is the meaning. This shows that only these two arise from that, so they are called measure, not others, because there is not that. The refutation to this is "if." "Direct perception and" is called the established tenet. The explanation for this is "because it is direct perception." If one abandons non-deception itself, then measure

If someone asks, how should one answer that it is not? Because this very thing, these two are one, so this strives to show that they are close to each other. Even so, this argument is one aspect of the established proposition, namely, direct perception and inference are valid cognitions because they are direct perception and inference. If someone says that sound and analogy, etc., are not valid cognitions because they are sound, etc., then it is not so, because this is to establish a name. Like this, for direct perception, because the nature of things appears directly, for inference generated by the power of the sign of non-arising if absent, because it is related to the non-manifest thing, it is to establish non-deception. But sound, etc., are not like that. Here, "if" etc. are the views of others, "like this" etc. are the established conclusions. If there is something to be measured, there will be no error, which is also to be considered, because for a rabbit's horn, there is no room to consider measuring something without error. What is said is by the previous teachers. Then, for these two measurable things, sometimes it is not direct perception but inference, and sometimes when it is separated from the collection that produces it, will it become another valid cognition? "Its own characteristics" etc. are the answer. The meaning is that the meaning of direct perception is temporarily said to be clear and obvious for oneself knowing things. For whom it is so clear and obvious, that is direct perception. One's own nature is not clear and obvious, if one does not think through the way of non-arising if absent, then it will only become non-thinking. If one thinks from something that is not non-arising if absent, then it will be too extreme. Therefore, from seeing the thing of non-arising if absent and recognizing non-arising if absent itself, one recognizes something that is hidden in some way, and that itself is inference. Therefore, if one thinks that there is something other than what is to be directly perceived and inferred, then it is not within the scope of valid cognition, therefore, such a thing itself is not an object of doubt. Therefore, it is said that there is no measurable thing, but other things.
