So, how is it produced through it? Even if that is allowed, it is still uncertain because it is a mistaken consciousness. Moreover, the production by external things exists, but the attachment to external things does not. From self-origination, the prior existence of meaning is not grasped by consciousness. However, if other consciousness grasps the previously existing thing, then that consciousness should also be called self-cognizant perception (Skt. svalakṣaṇa-pratyakṣa). Perception is also solely produced by things. Therefore, if that other consciousness is not proven to be produced by things, then it is not perception. And being produced by things is inseparable from grasping the prior existence of things. Therefore, that consciousness, whatever it is, should be known by other consciousness, so there is no end to this. If it is admitted that the prior existence of things can be known through inference, then inference also comes from perception. Even so, inference is the cause of perception, and perception is also the cause of inference. If they are mutually causal in this way, then what will arise first? Nothing will arise. Or, if it is thought that perception and inference are simultaneous, so they will not be mutually dependent, then it is said, "Perception and." The refutation of the Samkhya definition is the phrase "ears and so on." Another refutation is: "Entering through the ears and so on, cannot be indicated without consciousness." For the time being, explaining the latter half is "wanting to enter." If the entry of ears and so on is not understood, it is not a definition. Where does this come from? The phrase "how can one not understand." The meaning is that the definition is said to cause entry. Then, the phrase "then" refers to what perception is used to approximately indicate the entry of ears and so on. Therefore, to show that the other party should answer in this way is "that also," ears and so on are also the perception that grasps entry. Explaining the first half is that mistaken consciousness also has the entry of ears and so on, so how is it the definition of perception? However, what is the entry of ears and so on?
