If the general characteristics are stated as such, then here only the separate terms become what is to be established. Among them, which are the direct perceptions that are combined with conceptual thought? For example, saying "This fire is definitely able to do the work of what is manifestly desired," from that person's point of view, these two valid cognitions should be shown. Since the aspects of knowledge are different and the appearances are different, if the external objects are different, why are the valid cognitions not different? Because it comes from the very nature of appearance itself. Among them, the nature of fire, which has the aspect of burning, is established by direct perception, because it is what makes it manifest. The nature of fire is direct perception, because it is clearly experienced. Understanding that something previously seen can do what needs to be done and has the same aspect as that thing is hidden, so it is the object of inference. Direct perception itself causes one to approach fire, because the inference that arises from it is not like that. Is it not non-valid cognition? To this, if it is only simultaneous with direct perception, it is not valid cognition, because the body and the earth, etc., would also become valid cognition. To this, it is said here: In all cases, the things that abide as cause and effect follow existence and non-existence, and without inference, one cannot enter by relying solely on direct perception. Therefore, both are valid cognitions, because they cause one to enter. Without inference, is it not also seen that one can enter solely through direct perception from extreme habituation? Because there is no definite grasping from the sign. To this, it is said here: At first, it is not seen that one can enter solely through direct perception, even if it is allowed that one can enter through extreme habituation, but because direct perception never enters without prior inference, it is reasonable that inference is valid cognition. Furthermore, since direct perception can cause one to enter even without inference when there is extreme habituation, similarly, since it is also seen that one can enter fire from smoke even without direct perception, then direct perception would also become not what causes one to enter. If one thinks that inference itself is not valid cognition, then is not causing one to enter the same? Can one say that direct perception is not valid cognition and inference is not valid cognition?

Thus, it is to be examined. Since there is no valid cognition other than that which enters, both direct perception and inference are valid cognitions. Furthermore, if direct perception could establish the function of burning, etc., which is hidden, then all hidden things would be experienced. Therefore, all beings would know all things. If it is said that the nature of fire is related to the function of burning, etc., but all other hidden things are not related to the nature of direct perception, therefore they are not apprehended, then, is not the understanding from relation inference? I do not accept any other inference except the understanding from relation. Therefore, whatever is understood by the nature of similarity is only the characteristic of the universal, which is established by experience. They have pointed out the object of the sign of the effect, and the object of sound should also be understood by the knowledge arising from sound. That knowledge arising from sound itself is shown to be the object of its own appearance. This shows the scope of the reason of nature. For example, it is certain that it is similar to the entity of a cow, such as saying, "similar to a cow but not a cow." In that case, the essence itself should be cognized by direct perception, and similarity is the object of knowledge arising from sound. For example, this is similar to a cow, and that is similar to this, thus focusing on two kinds of knowledge of similarity on the same object, direct perception cannot cognize both at the same time. Therefore, similarity is the object of knowledge arising from sound. The reason of nature is what generates terms, because this can be used as a term of similarity, because its form is seen. The forms of cow and non-cow are also determined by prior and subsequent direct perceptions. Therefore, the object of sound is not its own characteristic, and conceptualization should also be understood like sound, which is the term called the object of conceptualization. The other reason is that when it exists, because there is no intelligence, this indicates non-apprehension, that is, when things exist and do not exist, because knowledge enters with a generally definite form, it should be known that there is no experience of other meanings, that is, holding everything.
