If it is thought that consciousness arises from one, that is, the nature of mind, and if consciousness does not arise all at once, then, if that is the case, a lamp would not be seen by multiple consciousnesses. If it can be seen, then similarly, the mind would also become the cause of not being seen all at once. If it is not the cause of not being seen all at once, then, at that time, there would be no use for sequence either, because there would be no difference later. This means that the mind would also gradually lose the ability to generate consciousness, because the mind would be no different later than before, because it is permanent. This is an explanation of the body and the person (Pudgala). This means that those who think that consciousness is also one because the body and the person are one, are also refuted by this, just as a lamp is seen by many, and there is no use for sequence either, because there is no difference. If it is determined from formations (Samskara), therefore from where, if from consciousness, if it is, it is what is desired. This means that if discriminations are determined from formations, and arise sequentially, then, where do formations come from? If it is said that formations arise from consciousness, in order to explain that what is born from consciousness is the cause of consciousness, if that is the case, this kind of formation is also what I desire, formations are produced by consciousness, and are habits (Vasanas) with other names. Therefore, because consciousness is determined, it is established that consciousness is prior. If the previous consciousness is only the cause of other consciousnesses, and not the object of grasping, therefore it will transfer to other objects, then, the object of grasping is not produced from other than the producer, the producer has the nature of the object of grasping. It is said that there is no other object of grasping other than producing one's own consciousness, however, the forms and so on that produce consciousness are the nature of the object of grasping. Because, appearance is not the object of grasping, the partless does not have subtle qualities and so on. This means that appearance and producing consciousness are not not the object of grasping. If appearance can produce consciousness because it has parts, but it does not hold other parts. Similarly, the cause of consciousness is also not the object of grasping, if consciousness is for the partless

There is no subtlety, etc., because appearance is with parts. Therefore, its parts should not be grasped. The energy of grasping will diminish, and the nature of producing this is not other. This refers to: If the grasping of the previous thought itself diminishes in energy, but the nature of the cause that produces consciousness, the diminution of others is not, because it is not the consciousness of meaning. To this, it is said here: From grasping itself, the producer is not other, it is the nature of grasping itself. Even if it is not so, for real consciousness, form etc. are not helpers. It refers to: The nature of grasping, that is, the consciousness of the previous thought produces other consciousness, this is the nature of grasping, not other. If it is not so, from form etc. other than grasping itself, manifestly for one's own consciousness, it is not a helper, and indirectly it is not a producer, so it becomes non-grasping. However, because it is certain that there is consciousness, form etc. are helpers, but not grasping itself. To this, it is said here: Other than grasping itself and its nature, what else is there that is certain to exist? For consciousness also there is it, if so, it also exists in that itself. It refers to: Form etc., this other than the nature of grasping, what else is there that is certain to exist, that is, the certain existence of consciousness? There is nothing. For the consciousness of the previous thought, the one that helps manifestly, because consciousness also exists in that itself, that is, it exists in the grasped itself. Because the apprehension and experience of grasping are the nature of the mind's grasping. It refers to: The mind's, that is, the nature of the proximate taking and experience of the self-grasping consciousness, these two are the nature of grasping, other coarse etc. are not. Other consciousness is not grasping, because it is not proximate taking. If because it is merely proximate taking, it is the grasping of consciousness, then because it is not subtle, form etc. will also not be cognized, and then yogis will also not grasp other subtle minds etc., because the proximate taking of the yogi's consciousness is not other minds. If so, form etc. and mind, for the analysis of the nature of grasping, for those with impure minds
