Because of habituating to agreeable happiness and so on, all the torments of suffering will appear as happiness. Therefore, one should abandon desire and so on. Desire and so on are not the nature of things; one should not embrace women. Therefore, it is reasonable to develop a mind that rejoices in suchness, because suchness is not changed by anything. If someone says that desire and so on are the cause of happiness, therefore they are happiness, then say to them: If desire itself is considered happiness because it is the cause of happiness, then likewise, happiness is also the cause of suffering, therefore it will become suffering. Because happiness, when completely transformed, becomes the cause of extreme suffering. Happiness is suffering itself, therefore the aggregates called suffering samsara are established. Because of clearly habituating to desire and so on, one will become endowed with clear desire and so on, therefore these various things are caused by their own previous lineage, therefore they are established as samsaric in nature. Although it transforms in that way, desire and so on do not arise solely from habit. How so? Because desire and so on arise from other causes, therefore happiness and so on are the ultimate truth. Or, if suffering and so on do not arise from habit in the same way that happiness and so on are habituated to, will happiness itself become the aggregates of samsara? Here, it is answered: Because it is arbitrary, it cannot be an uncaused arising. Time and place, etc., desire and so on are not from other causes either, because desire and so on are clearly seen from habit. Who would cultivate suffering? No one habituates to suffering. However, it is possible when happiness and so on are clear. If those happinesses do not exist, then no one will habituate to suffering, because if one wants happiness, everyone will engage in it. Therefore, one should strive to accomplish happiness, because even without happiness, suffering inherently exists. For things, there is only the absence of suffering, and that suffering also comes from habituating to destruction. Therefore, suffering arises from habituating to destruction.

We do not say that all suffering is happiness. Or rather, suffering here is characterized by the suffering of conditioning, and happiness does not truly exist. However, suffering itself arises from habit and so on. Attachment and so on do not arise from habit, but are they not the nature of phlegm and so on? Thus, attachment is the nature of phlegm, ignorance is the nature of wind, and hatred is the nature of bile. Like the faults of attachment and so on, other faults such as mucus are also the nature of bile and so on. If it is said that because they exist by the nature of bile and so on, they arise from that cause, therefore attachment and so on are truly existent. Here it is said: Because of confusion, wind and so on are not Dharma. If it is said that because of the mixing of nature, there is no fault, then why are other qualities not seen in it? Whatever is the nature of something is not confused with it, like the clarity of a lamp. If the qualities of wind and so on are ignorance and so on, then there would be no confusion with them, but confusion is also seen. Thus, it is seen that the nature of wind is attachment, and the nature of phlegm is ignorance. However, even if it is the nature of phlegm, it is also the nature of other ignorance, so even if one becomes deluded and hateful, there is no fault of confusion because the natures are mixed with each other. If that is the case, just as there is bile in the nature of wind, since it is admitted that there is hatred, then why are qualities such as dust, which are produced from bile other than hatred, not seen in the nature of phlegm? Or rather, hatred itself is the quality of bile, but dust and so on are not. Then, friends, from what will the dust of bile arise? If it is said that it arises from bile itself. Then, for the nature of wind, just like hatred, dust and so on will also arise from bile itself. Although it may change in that way, what is seen in that way is the quality of attachment. For all bile and so on.
