If it is said like that, even if there are doubts in other aspects, it still depends on other things. The speaker of terms also does not completely negate the object, nor does he completely enter the object. For those who completely negate, what else is there to depend on? If it is said that doubting being deceived depends on other things, then, even so, the causes that lead to deception are themselves dependent, and it is certain by recognizing that it is not deception. The Vedas are self-valid, that is: the self is the measure of all measures, it is certain, the self is not existent, it does not exist anywhere. This is what is said. Others are unreasonable because there is no cause of knowledge like that, once the eye manifests form, the time of seeing will not change, because the cause is certain. That is: who can measure the all-knowing with one measure? With the certain eye, all tastes and so on can be known. This is what is said. There is also no measure that can recognize it, who can examine the unreasonable cause? That is: temporarily, the all-knowing and others are not seen now, even if they exist in one direction, because there is no sign, it cannot be inferred. This is what is said. Because the Vedas are also seen as valid, so one should not examine it at all, one should not analyze what is not seen, this is the view of the reasoners. The application of this is to become valid, that is to say, temporarily, inference arises from being certain as the three aspects themselves, not from other merits, it is unreasonable to say that, because that itself is merit, apart from that, merely the three aspects are the non-valid that produces inverted clinging, such as: the wisdom arising in the impeller and so on, is valid, because it is produced by a faultless cause, like the sign and the credible language and the root consciousness. Like this. Even if there is no certainty of being produced by a faultless cause, knowledge still arises from this. Therefore, it is not the cause of inference that is certain as the non-inverted three aspects. However, it is not the cause of validity itself, therefore there are also merits for the root consciousness and so on.

The observation of it remains unchanged, being exactly the same. Furthermore, it is incorrect to say that eye medicine and other compounds are without faults but also without merits. If the sense faculty alone were to generate valid cognition, it would always generate it, as it is permanent. If it is said that appearances and so forth create distinctions, then in that case, it would become valid cognition from something else. Regarding this, it will be shown that: 'Because the sun's rays suppress the dew, the eye's ability diminishes; gradually, by looking, it becomes clear.' Cognition itself is not to be generated by merits and faults, but is the sense faculty that possesses merits and faults, because it arises even without them. The faulty cognition that arises solely from the sense faculty is also valid cognition, just like cognition, because there is no difference in action. It is also seen that the focus arising from the habituation of the sense faculty is effective in crafts and so forth. Regarding this, it is said that: 'Through habituation, one becomes focused; herbalists gather herbs; one becomes highly skilled in whether the nature of objects is different or not, and in the tones of difference, and in seeds and whatever is beyond hearing.' It is also incorrect to say that one has heard of a compound that eliminates cataracts. To say that one obtains merit through the absence of cataracts is actually saying that one obtains merit through other means. For example, if one rubs the eyes with the dry powder of the eyes of cats, musk rats, wolves, and so forth, one can see at night as well as during the day. In this case, it is also because faults have been eliminated, not because they are absent. Furthermore, regarding the statement that one relies on others because of the suspicion of being deceived, and that one is certain because of recognizing non-deception, seeking the meaning of non-deception is also striving to seek valid cognition, which will be explained later. Valid cognition is what the Bhagavan wishes to show for the sake of benefit, it is the collection of causes of the teacher's own nature, because it is connected to the Sugata. Therefore, for that very reason, the non-perception of the cause is not established, and because he is the protector, there is also the non-perception of the result. How is this known? It is stated, 'Valid cognition is established,' and so forth.
