then it can be inferred. Otherwise, it is not. If one infers an unseen fire from unseen smoke, then there is no seeing. If it is said that from that very sign, that which was before is already established, then from that, other examples, because they are the means of proof, will become endless. For inference, it is not permissible to abandon examples. If that were the case, it would not be inference itself, just like direct perception. Because direct perception has other valid cognitions, if it is not inference itself, then this is the same. Therefore, the inference that establishes the example is also from other examples, and because there is no end, it will not be understood. But if it is established by understanding the meaning, then there is no understanding at all. If there is no understanding, then the meaning itself is not reasonable, and there is no understanding at all. If there is no understanding, then there is no meaning of understanding. What is this called understanding? If it is said to be made an object by understanding, if understanding is not understood, then is that which is made an object by understanding to be clarified? If it is said to be present, if what is present is not understood, then how does one establish understanding? If it is said to be understood, then there is also what is present for that, so it has already been said that there is no end to this. Therefore, whether it is presence itself or another aspect of meaning, if understanding is not established, then it is not understanding itself. Therefore, meaning is established from intelligence, but it is not so in any way from meaning. Because that is not established, meaning itself is not fully established. Meaning is established from intelligence. If meaning is established without intelligence, then everything will see everything. When one sees one's own intelligence acting on meaning, at that time it will be said that meaning is understood, otherwise it will not be said that anything is understood, or everything will understand itself. Therefore, intelligence is not established from meaning, because it would be subject to the faults previously stated. From direct perception, intelligence, and from that, after seeing speech and movement, etc., eliminating other inferences will not change, because there is no seeing of the connection to the self. If, from the nature of direct perception, intelligence and those related to it are seen in some form, then at that time, seeing the sign related to that

The meaning of just slightly understanding is not another action. Saying that is also irrelevant, because if that were the case, it would lead to the state of self-cognition. If someone says that it is cognition by another (consciousness), that is not correct, because (you) are clearly attached to the idea that it is seen by recollection. Because this (recollection) does not have the nature of the previous (seen), so this is not an understanding. If it is said that this is taken as an object, then it is not recollection. Self-cognition is merely direct perception, this is a reasonable statement. Self-cognition is understood in that way, this is a conventional statement. Understanding that is separate from what can be measured is itself untrue, but the transcendent and so on are not, because it is meaningless to say so. Furthermore, to understand through meaning, or in another way. Through another mind, how can your mind become completely clear? How can minds become completely clear to each other? Because, whether clear or not is completely the same. From where do the illuminable and the illuminator come? Those that are not of the nature of being fully established are not suitable as illuminable and illuminator, either mutually or in another way. The light of a lamp, with its clear nature, makes unclear things like a vase clear, but not in another way. How is an object illuminated? Because in light, its essence changes. Because from its own light, other things change, so it is illuminated, like the light of a lamp and so on. That light is also its essence, it is completely clear itself. So, if the nature of a vase is different and the light is also different, similarly, if the nature of consciousness is different and form and so on are also different, what would happen? That is not the case, even if it is, but this, like a lamp and so on outside of experience. Without experience, the illuminable and the illuminator cannot be understood. If consciousness and objects are indeed different, even if that is the case, the nature of consciousness must be self-illuminating like a lamp. If it is said that that consciousness is grasped by another (consciousness), that is not possible, because it has the same nature as it. If a consciousness different from itself grasps this, then this reasoning would also apply to external objects.
