It is for the sake of clearly showing that. Due to the cause of being different from things that are not its fruit, the vase is something to be grasped by the eye and made of earth, etc., thereby knowing various dharmas. This explains the seed of the entity of the basis of sameness, difference, and difference. The so-called "sound meaning this" refers to the meaning that appears in the mind. With the words "utterance," etc., it becomes one. Words are well applied. This is what is explained by such things. The so-called "basis of sameness" is connected to "speaking as it is said." Even if it does not exist in the ultimate sense, it is spoken as it is said. This is what is spoken by those with discrimination in the realm of mind. Thus, the basis of sameness between things and the meaning of sound is impossible. Because it has been said "speaking as it is said," therefore, in order to show that, "dharma," etc., are mentioned. This is dharma, this is the possessor of dharma, thus distinguishing. The so-called "how are different and not different," means that even a single thing, because it does not produce multiple results, is different by way of being different from things that are not its fruit. Even multiple things, producing a single result, are not different because of being different from things that are not its fruit. This is because it is fabricated by the discriminating mind. That meaning is not examined, that is, combining words in a way that does not rely on the true meaning of things. In the world, as it appears to the mind

The aggregative dharmas are not distinct from each other. Therefore, for those things, whatever clings to the same essence and one meaning having multiple essences is a fault of the discriminating mind, which is a mistake. Because the things of ultimate truth are neither mixed nor separated, therefore, this is the commonality of many dharmas, and similarly, the characteristic of many dharmas. Whatever terminology of such distinctiveness is for the meaning of the mind, not for the self-nature of external objects. If it is said that because the appearance in the mind is false, how can there be different dharmas such as being made? Therefore, it is said "that nature" etc., referring to the appearance of the mind itself. Like this, due to clinging to being the same as external objects, just as the self-nature is different from others, the appearance of discrimination arising from seeing it is also clung to in the same way. Therefore, it is said "think well". Just as direct perception only grasps its own self-nature, then for the dharma to be established, such as impermanence, etc., why doesn't it grasp the self-nature distinguished by inference through establishment? Therefore, it is said "to be established" etc. This is to be established, this is the establisher. Because in this thought, the clinging to reality has disappeared, and the appearance of self-nature itself has also disappeared, so grasping the self-nature distinguished by the general characteristic is latent. Master Dignāga and others say that grasping the difference distinguished by exclusion of others, in order to eliminate the doubt that one has vowed to grasp the connection between self-nature and general characteristic, therefore, it is said "difference" etc. This phrase "difference and general characteristic are mixed knowledge" also shows that self-nature is not the object to be grasped, but is self-nature itself, and should not be understood in this way. However, there, it is only that the differences appearing in the mind are grasped as being mixed with that general characteristic by the nature of exclusion of others. If you ask again, why should it be understood that way there?

Now, it is said, "That is," and so on. The aspect of oneness in many things is the general characteristic. The aspect of many differences in one thing is the specific characteristic. The word "etc." includes the characteristics of phenomena and entities possessing phenomena, and so on. Their own characteristics are not to be apprehended as generalities either. Why? If asked, what kind of difference is the distinction of the nature of things such as being made and impermanence? The distinction, that is, the many natures of things, is for one's own characteristic, but that own characteristic cannot be established alone. One thing cannot have many natures of things, because one's own characteristic has no parts. What is called "its nature" is one's own characteristic. That which is different from all is the uncommon, and the saying "there is no word that realizes it as it is" means that there is no word that holds one's own characteristic as an uncommon nature. The saying "there is also no conceptualization" should be combined with the context, meaning that there is also no conceptualization that holds one's own characteristic as an uncommon nature. Why? Because words and conceptualizations exist in the form of generality. Saying "there is no word that realizes it" means that words cannot be applied to one's own characteristic, and therefore the question "why" is raised again. Because "it exists in the form of generality." Since it has already been said, it is unreasonable to raise the question, but if it is not so? That is true, but it is arranged in this way in order to express the answer more completely. That which is conventionally made into an object is that which is conventionally established, and words refer to it. "That is made for the sake of expression," that is convention. At the time of expression, on what does one want to establish one's own characteristic? There is no own characteristic. At the time of establishment, the own characteristic that is seen does not follow at the time of expression, because the nature of one appearance cannot exist in another appearance. If one appearance is considered to be the object of convention, but because it is momentary, that nature does not follow at other times.
