If it is thought that desire is a desire for a place without fault, this is a reason of self-nature. Whatever is without fault, one should not cultivate detachment from desire for it, for example, liberation. To think that self, senses, and body, etc., are also without fault is a contradictory pervasion. Although it can be transformed in this way, even if it is with faults, if the self is also for a place without fault, it is attachment to self, etc., then it is also the root of suffering, therefore this is flawed. Therefore, the reason is not established. The statement is that whatever is flawed is possessed of detachment from desire, for example, a finger bitten by a snake. To think that attachment to self is flawed is a reason of self-nature. If this is the case, then, for the person who wants liberation, the self is also a characteristic of suffering, the same as having faults. When he does not have detachment from that fault, then it is to the self. For that fault of the state of arising attachment to self, etc., the words should be arranged in this way. When he does not have attachment and detachment to it, what will those people have attachment and detachment to? Even if there is a cause of suffering, but because it does not possess detachment from desire for the self, it will not become mine, therefore it shows error. The statement is also that whatever exists but does not change is not its cause, for example, if there is a seed of barley, but there is no sprout of rice. Even if there is a cause of suffering, detachment from desire for the self will not change, this is a contradictory pervasion. Furthermore, if attachment to mine changes from seeing merit, then one will see faults, because seeing faults is contradictory to the cause of attachment to mine, so it arises from seeing merit. It is contradictory to attachment, not in other ways. If attachment exists in power, etc., then it is not like that. It does not arise from seeing merit, but from my mind arising from being the root of enjoyment, etc.

If (attachment to self) arises, how can that be the cause of my attachment? Seeing suffering does not harm my mind. My attachment, etc., will be harmed. The reason is that if something does not harm the cause of something else, then it cannot pacify that thing. For example, if something does not harm the root of phlegm disease, then sweet, cool, and oily things, etc., cannot completely pacify phlegm disease. The practice of suffering also does not harm the cause of attachment to objects of the senses, etc., which is my mind. This is called 'pervasive non-establishment.' If the reason for attachment to self is seeing merit, then the practice of suffering can harm seeing merit. If that is the case, then it is not logical because it is not established. Why? Because children, etc., also have this situation. Children and livestock, etc., whether they judge merit or fault in the eyes, etc., that are related to me, and whether they are separated, will still have attachment to the eyes, etc. Even if merit is not seen, this situation still exists, so it can be understood that it is not caused by seeing merit. Because things with defects also have this situation. Even if the eyes, etc., which are 'mine,' themselves have defects, and even if defects such as blurriness, blindness, lameness, and ugliness are seen, attachment will still arise. Therefore, this attachment does not arise from seeing merit or fault. There is also no attachment to other things that have merit. For those who clearly want to become other people, even if their eyes, etc., have merit, those who see merit will not have attachment to me. Even if 'mine' exists, there is no attachment to things of the past, etc. When 'mine' has passed and disappeared, and when 'etc.' is mentioned, such as limbs cut off from one's own body, these limbs are the same as the original limbs, with no difference, having the same merit, if my mind abandons them, because it has been separated from attachment to 'mine.' Attachment is not caused by seeing merit. Therefore, because there is no attachment even when merit is seen, and because attachment exists if there is a cognition of 'mine,' therefore, in my mind...
