This is not a logical way to follow, because it would lead to the self-nature becoming many. Even if one admits this, it would only become the basis for many consciousnesses. Like this, the thought that many consciousnesses are the dharma of one self-nature is also unreasonable. If that is the case, is the mind different from the meaning or not different from the meaning? If it is not different from the meaning, then how can the mind become the self-nature of being one with form, and the same with sound and so on? In this way, since there is no difference from one dharma, if form and so on become one, that is also impossible, because one sense has the fault of form and so on. Even if it is different from the meaning, then how many forms and so on there are, there are also that many consciousnesses of their result, in this way, it will inevitably lead to the self-nature becoming many, and it is enough to mention it in passing. If someone thinks that form, which is transformed from the great elements, exists by relying on the great elements, and therefore prevents the basis, then how does this not harm what was promised? This does not harm what was promised, because we think like this: white and so on are not dependent on earth and so on. Whoever thinks that form and so on arise from the great elements of the nature of touch, then undoubtedly, the time of cause and effect is different, in this way, relying on the four great elements, form and so on do not abide on the basis, but are transformed from them, so there is no fault. Then, how is it said that the four great elements are taken as the cause? Because the words taken as the cause also say the meaning of the cause, not the meaning of the basis. The four great elements are self-based, and form and so on are not different, because they are the abiders. Because of the cause, the great elements on which form and so on depend will become the basis. Similarly, for the idea of thinking that it is the basis itself, if the great elements and the form taken as the cause, what is their self-nature, they are the self-nature that is determined as the nature of the basis and the based, then, if their self-nature is not determined, because there is no nature of the basis and the based, therefore the mind for the form taken as the cause itself is intolerable.
