That which has that nature is universally present, like being completely satisfied with the things manifested by discrimination. That which can be expressed by the word "desire" also has the nature of following all things. What was just said, with the nature of following various expressions, will say "no." For that itself, for the things in the realm of arbitrary words, the negation of those words is contradictory, and it will become the fault of breaking the promise, this is the final conclusion. If so, negating the realm of words like wood, it will not harm the reputation, because those are words of kind. No, because all words are initially conventional for meaning. For example, for the word "blue lotus," the word of blue quality is also arbitrary. When understood by reputation, from the words there entering into youth, this is said to be the reason. Because what is the reason for existing like that? Therefore, the meaning of the word with reason, or, the word that harms and negates the meaning without reason, or, the words are the ultimate meaning, for example, negating that "the moon itself" is not ultimately existent, it is like saying that harm is a reasonable path. Because when negating the universal things like that, due to the harm of reputation, therefore, the difference of the realm of this itself is, in order to show, reputation is also, not outside of inference, becoming existent, from that, like before, distinguishing, with one's own words and promise, like harm. If it is not so, it will become too excessive or become meaningless. It has been established that the promise and the harm of reputation that have not transformed from outside of inference, then what is the need to explain the distinction from inference? For the time being, if the debater does not consider himself to be valid cognition, then at the time when that is not valid cognition, because there is no entering into the occasion itself, and, because it depends on the occasion of promising that one's own words are valid cognition. The treatise is also the same, because it is the basis of the occasion of debate, therefore by acknowledging the thought of obtaining the third position, the promise is valid cognition, if that is the case.

This is necessary here because one's own words and treatises cause harm. To harm with fame is not to harm with fame by the power of things. What is it then? It is fame arising from sound, which is a state arising from mere intention. Even to that itself, it is harmful to prevent it, and that is the necessity of these two necessities. The necessities are the teacher, and the teachers of those two harms, shown together with the cause. For example, just by promising that "there is no measure for measurable things," and so on. Treatises and cold words promise to be valid cognitions, but it is not said that way, even if one's own words, etc., are harmed by inference, etc., even then, without relying on inference, the disputant merely promises to be a valid cognition, and thinks that it contradicts his own words, but not in the way of harming by inference. Similarly, harming by trust has a cause. Fame arising from sound, but not from the fame of things, thus showing that harming by fame has a cause. Direct perception and inference are not harmful, and are not shown to have a cause. Because it is said only that sound is not audible and that the pot is permanent. Even for this harm by direct perception, sound is in the self of many things, the sound of fame is in the nature of impermanence, etc., the nature of fame is audible, appearing to ear consciousness. What is it like? It is non-dual, because there is no duality to it, so the words are connected. It is a synonym for one's own characteristic, which is devoid of genus, etc. Why is it said to be non-dual? Because the arising of mind is diverse, and no appearance is seen. Because the arising of mind is seen to appear as one. The meaning of direct perception, for this, is its meaning. In order to correctly show one's own characteristics, this meaning that is said is: if the object of the ear sense is abandoned, it will be harmed by direct perception. Together with the ear, the thing that sound is taken and held.
