And, the objects that can be subsequently inferred are those that need to be completely purified beforehand. Therefore, by discriminating in this way, both of these objects are completely pure. The desire to fully accept the treatise will occur at that time. From the time of complete examination, the treatise will be accepted later. At that time, the treatise itself will become something that refutes harm. Why? Because it contradicts the treatise. This is the established reason, that is, it is not permissible to discriminate on the meanings seen in the treatise. If the treatise has contradictions, then the meaning it expounds is unreasonable, which means that completely non-existent discrimination is not allowed. In reality, these two objects are completely pure, so they subsequently enter the third position. When it is promised, it will move to the third position. When moving to the third position, if it exists, then promising the treatise is reasonable. At that time, the discrimination of the meaning it expounds is an argument with harm. Similarly, when fully accepting the treatise in this way, it is not necessary to eliminate all the meanings that cause harm to the views of the treatise. However, if there is no timely dharma to be proven, it will not occur, such as impermanence itself and selflessness itself, and so on. The harm to itself is not another to be eliminated, other things that are not related to the timely dharma to be proven are not. Why? Because it would fall into an endless state. When the qualities of the earth, etc., are revealed in smells, etc., even if it is stated to prove that what is made is impermanent, it will become contradictory, that is its meaning. If it is said that debate can be conducted after promising the treatise, that is also unreasonable. Because when it becomes the time to discriminate the meaning of the argument, if the treatise is not promised, then the discrimination of those things that are distinguished is not allowed. When discriminating without relying on the treatise, if there is no obstacle to the established things, then all discriminations need the treatise for things that are not famous in the argument. Who made this rule? No one made it.

It is not reason itself. Because words like "now" indicate that it is not reason. If there is speculation that has the acceptance of tenets and has gone before, then things will be established. If it is not like that, even if there is a connection of things, it is not like that. If it is established like this, then, those who do not have tenets, those cowherd women and so on who do not even have the name of tenets, will they also hold non-existence because smoke and other signs do not arise if they do not exist? It is not necessarily existence, because the treatises are not fully accepted, so it will hinder establishment. If even without fully accepting the treatises, it does not hinder establishment, then one will not even slightly accept the treatises. Therefore, accepting the treatises is not obtained by reason. A commentary on the Compendium on Valid Cognition, thirty-seventh chapter. If, in the time of debate, it is necessary to fully accept the treatises, if it is established like this, then is it necessary to accept? It is not like that. For example, what is famous in the world, or what is done together with people, will be related, such as the ears and so on, or, by the power of the perfect measure that has self-nature, qualities, and faults, it can also be done by the measure that accepts the meaning. First of all, the former is not, because some acceptors will arise alone. The latter is also not, because merits and faults are not seen only through scriptures. Therefore: Those who hold bad tenets, from where is this obtained? For example, saying "this scripture is not, that scripture is not" and so on, is not established. The tenet itself is holding bad, and for its belief, it is impossible to separate from it, the so-called "outsider" is speculation itself. Even just the establishment is not of some scriptures, in that case, from where does the connection with it come? Because in any case, it must be accepted at the time of speculation. Even without it, it will not hinder establishment. Furthermore, if the treatises have the ability to harm by seeing, it will also cause harm in some cases.
