If one sees things in such a way, then this arises from the senses. Furthermore, it is not completely clear in appearance. If it is the nature of mental delusion, then it should be considered as a consciousness that arises with conceptual thought. If it is not so, then it is not reasonable to misunderstand the statement "the fourth is distinct self-awareness." In that way, just as seeing the knowledge of a second moon, it is not clear in appearance. Thus, it has already been said above that "what is connected with conceptual thought is not something with a clear appearance." If, because of such an appearance, one also considers that consciousness to be without conceptual thought, then for the purpose of refuting that, here "the fourth is distinct self-awareness" is to clarify this word. Therefore, even when one is asleep or awake, whatever clear-appearing mind of a person is without conceptual thought. Whatever the two aspects, whether inverted or not. If it is not so, then all minds that appear unclear are conceptual thoughts. Because even if such knowledge is without conceptual thought, it is deceptive, therefore the knowledge of a second moon is possible, therefore even if the knowledge of a second moon and so on is without conceptual thought, merely stating the definition that "direct perception is devoid of conceptual thought" would become valid, which is prevented by the word that indicates "accompanied by confusion." Why? Because it is deceptive. There, the object that appears and the object that functions, seeking for that purpose, because they do not meet. In reality, apparent direct perception is explained as two types. Because in this way, although the teacher arises from the senses, because it is a deceptive apparent direct perception, therefore, "delusion and conventional knowledge, inference arises from inference, memory arises from speech," in this way, the apparent direct perception of the nature of conceptual thought is shown, and after distinguishing in this way, the second non-conceptual apparent direct perception is explained as "accompanied by confusion." The consciousness that has become the result, through the way in which the form of the object arises, relying on conceptual thought, is valid cognition.
