Moreover, just as it is, when other bright appearances arise, they appear as many, like the stars at midnight in the waning moon of autumn. Therefore, one life is obscured by light, also in times of suppression. By what is it obscured? Because there is no failure to see differences. It is because of difference that there is no seeing of difference, but not because there is no multiplicity. Thus, for happiness and so forth, from the various different mental events, in the continuum of the arising of different aggregates of mind and mental factors, the classification of difference is established. If there is no close indication of the difference between intellect and experience in the continuum, then by what means can it be said that this experience and this intellect are devoid of characteristics? The direct perception of a yogi is also seeing only the meaning, unmixed with the conceptualization of scripture. That is explained by "as previously stated" and so forth. Therefore, here, not all the knowledge of a yogi is direct perception. What then is it? "The yogic knowledge previously stated" refers to that which examines the truth, as previously stated when describing the object of the four noble truths. From what does that yogic knowledge arise? It is stated, "Those arise from meditation," meaning the knowledge that arises from perfecting the meditation on the truths. Because of being extremely accustomed to it, the net of thought is completely removed. Because of being free from thought, clarity is extremely apparent. Whatever is intensely meditated upon, from that, clarity will appear. From what does that arise? Therefore, it is stated, "desire and," and so forth, referring to desire, sorrow, and fear. The madness caused by them is the madness of desire, sorrow, and fear. Those, along with thieves, dreams, and so forth, are the madness of desire, sorrow, and fear, as well as thieves, dreams, and so forth. That which is corrupted by those is what causes beings to be confused. Even what is untrue will be seen. Due to the distinction of habituation, even untrue meanings will be seen. How is it seen? As if it were present before one. By mentioning "and so forth," rapid spinning and omens of death, and so forth, are included. Thus, just as seeing in that way makes the meaning manifest, it is in accordance with that.

If one focuses on accomplishing this in meditation, then why wouldn't they also become names that are hidden? That should not be determined. What appears clearly from the difference of meditation is mind, and if asked how it is non-conceptual? (Text:) "That which is related to concept, is not that which appears clearly." Thus it is said. That which has a basis in signs is concept, but it is not that which appears clearly. Therefore, for a mind consciousness that is without concept, there is no holding such as "this name is this," because there is no prior term of sound. For the cognition that holds the relationship between what is to be expressed and the expresser, there is also no clear appearance. Therefore, because one does not label what appears clearly, it is not a concept mixed with sound, therefore, any knowledge that appears clearly is itself non-conceptual. Isn't it that due to the influence of delusion, concept becomes clear in appearance? If so, even in a dream, knowledge is conceptual, but is it clear in appearance? That fault does not exist, because even in a dream, any concept is not itself clear in appearance. In that, what appears clearly is other non-conceptual, and other unclear that is related to concept. From what is that? For example: (Text:) "Even in a dream there is memory, but it does not have such meaning." Even in a dream, any knowledge of memory is an unclear memory. Even in a dream, the knowledge of the object appearing clearly, having an appearance similar to the object, therefore the next day one remembers. Therefore, in that, concept and non-concept are different. If for meditation, everything that arises from being accustomed to what is not true is not all clear in appearance, and is not non-conceptual, then isn't that a desire to assert a proponent of realism? If so, then it is admitted. That is not existent, for example: (Text:) "Impurity, exhaustion, earth, etc., even if not true, are of meditation." Through the power of practice, the non-conceptuality and clear appearance that arise from the power of practicing the snake, thus it is said, then it is admitted.
