Furthermore, since it includes both the general and the subsequent, if the subsequent inference is not a cognition for the purpose of understanding a non-manifest object, then it would become only one valid cognition. Excluding numbers such as three is also not possible. Why? Because there are other objects of measurement. If one asserts two valid cognitions merely because of two objects of measurement, then when there is another object of measurement that possesses the characteristics of both the general and the particular, there will be another valid cognition, so it would not be just two valid cognitions. The occasion for establishing another object of measurement, which is the object possessing the characteristics of the general and the particular, in order to understand the impermanence of color, does not exist because of the ability or inability to perform a function. Because it has already been shown that there is no other object of measurement through statements such as, "Because of the ability or inability to perform a function." Through that means, how can there be an occasion for multiple valid cognitions? Even so, it should be said that this fault will not be excessive, because examples such as "sound is impermanent" become other valid cognitions that understand the general and the particular. Why? Because it is connected to the generality of color. The discriminating consciousness is connected to the impermanence of the generality of color, but not to the particular, because it does not apprehend it. Although that may happen, if it is connected to the impermanence of the generality, then since the general does not have a substance, at that time one would obtain impermanence, etc., but not its own characteristic, because it does not enter into it. Connection is when something does not enter into something, that is not a quality of that thing, like unborn, etc. Impermanence, etc., are not the nature of non-things, but they are the very nature of things. Why? Because of that, i.e., the thing. Because it is established in that way through the establishment of aspects such as impermanence. Although that may happen, if one does not establish another by another. If one establishes the impermanence, etc., of the general, but not its own characteristic, then how can it be the aspect of impermanence, etc., and if one establishes the related general, then how can the thing become discriminating the aspect of impermanence outside the object of discrimination? That is not a fault, because it

Therefore, it is established. Furthermore, if in conceptual thought, the appearing generality itself, in such a way, grasps through the door of clinging to reality, even so, the own-characteristic of reality itself, which is established as having the nature of moments and so forth, will appear. When those conceptual thoughts arise, the conceptual thought itself is non-deceptive. Therefore, even if the self-nature is inverted, it still has a connection of arising with such a nature of things, so when establishing such a nature of things, that is a valid cognition, because a valid cognition is only necessary to that extent, so there is no contradiction in that way. All conceptual thoughts that come from the door of meaning in an indirect way, like what is seen, although they are illusions without the appearance of their own characteristics, they still cling to that nature. In whatever conceptual thought, there is another indirect cause nearby, then according to the nature of what it clings to, it enters into the thing that has that nature through the door of clinging, in that way, it is non-deceptive, it has been shown that it is not otherwise. It has been said, "Things and reality as they are," for example, a person is one who has the ability to produce smoke and so forth, or for example, sound is one who has the nature of impermanence and so forth. That is the nature of cause and determination, like fire and so on. Such a sign, of the mind. Whatever is the nature of the cause and has the nature, that on the nature of the cause and self itself, becomes the thing of smoke and so forth that is its result, or becomes its self-nature, indicates that, that is such a sign. What is the mind that is its object, that is what is knowledge. Smoke and so forth, its result or its self-nature, only has generality and so on, and also adds on to different entities, that is, it understands the nature of having birth and so on, and the nature of being made and so on. That thing does not arise without it, the object of the nature of its result and self-nature, is also a sign of such a mind, because its cause is truly that thing. What arises from that, that is what arises from the knowledge of the sign, that is what arises from that. What is it? The intelligence with the sign. On what? On that.
